How often do you change out your line?

Featured Replies

How often do you change out your line? Specifically braid how long will it last?

depends upon how often you use it.  I've got braid from last year and some from two years ago with no deterioration.

Depends on how much use it gets and in what types of environment...there's no prescribed time any line will last.  With braid, I usually change it/flip it when it starts to show signs of wear such as fraying and/or discloration.

How do you go about flipping the line?  I tried it once, just pulled off onto the floor.  Not a good idea.

LOL take it from the other spool... Thanks for the chuckle.

As far as changing line, I do it too much. But this year I have a solid game plan and an arsenal of lines that I like.

I have 3-6 years on various reels using PP. Like mentioned I flip it each year too and my actual fishing is from May-Mid OCT.

once at the beginning of the year. again around july. and i too have braid on for more than a year. this is coming from a non tournament angler.

Depends, really.

I'll change line when I start getting memory, I'll change if I've been in really nasty cruddy water for a period of time.  I might change because I've been fishing rocks or timber and it's abraded deeper into the spool.

Overall, I might change anywhere from 4-6 times a season on fluorocarbon, twice annually on braid, usually just once, though.  On any rod I have mono on (topwater and walleye rods) I'll change monthly.

Most of the time, though, I'm replacing about 70 yards at the most, leaving backing on the reel from whenever I spooled it.

my braid usually lasts the longest depends if i break off alot or have to cut my line due to snags ill have to re spool just due to lack of line on the spool. but my fluoro and mono set ups usually get swapped out 2 or 3 times a season due to nicks and stretching or cursed backlashes
