Craw baits colors
Tend to throw mostly black/blue. Not sure it works around where I am at. Usually see more of a green pumpkin or watermelon with orange tipped claws. No luck when I try to match the hatch.

The Lone Fisherman
I lost my fishing partner this in Dec of 2021. He was my father in law and we fun fished and tournament fished together. Our last tourney we won. I will always have that memory. This spring I will be trying to fun fish and tournament fish with my wife. She loves fishing and loved fishing with her dad, but has never tournament fished. Looking forward to this new way of life!

Melvern Lake KS
This lake still producing good smallmouth? I am trying to plan a trip soon to do some smallmouth fishing and this one was always fun, but haven't been down for 5-7 years now. Milford is good, but too hit or miss for me. Thanks

Rod choice
Irod 754 Magic Stick in either Air or Genesis Irod Genesis 2 713 Power Finesse I would look at a 4 power rod with a moderate fast to fast tip for the casting rod and a 3 power or M/MH spinning rod. Some might recommend a 2 power for the spinning rod. That might be fine, just consider the type of cover you typically fish around.

Recommend a punching rod?
Irod Genesis 2 Bub's Punch Rod is one bad ass stick. I don't own the Irod Air Bub's Sig Flip Rod, but it's on my list of must haves. You are already a Dobyn's guy and they make a bunch of solid rods capable of handling punching duties.

Spinning or casting for bass jig or Texas rigged.
You can catch bass on both. There will be more options in MH/H power in casting rods. Many brands make MH spinning rods and you can get spinning reels in 6.0+ gear ratios now. Use what you comfortable with. I have a Irod 713 spinning rod (Fred's Power Finesse) paired with a Daiwa Tatula 3000 https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/iROD_Genesis_II_Series_Spinning_Rods/descpage-IRGST.html Not my first choice for heavy cover, but I'm not afraid to throw 3/8oz and lighter t-rigs on it. I especially like it for throwing tubes. You want something you feel comfortable with so you can build confidence in it. I do recommend going with baitcasting setups because you will learn to become more accurate and be able to fish the heaviest cover.

Manual Pickup On A Spinner.....??
I don't know if it makes that big of a difference, because I know a ton of guys use the handle to flip the bail over and have had no issues, but I flip it manually to avoid unnecessary ware and tear. When I worked for BPS and Cabela's there were a lot of guys that would by sub $100 reels and come in because their bails would stay up after trying to flip them over via the handle turn. Made me question how I did it.

Punching Grass and Vegitation for Bass ?
Punch rod is a must. Reel is your call. 8.1 with long 90mm + handle or 7.3 would be fine. Most drags are really strong nowadays. I am partial to 80lb braid, but recommend 65-80. My setup is Bub's Punch Rod by Irod and a OG Zillion 7.1 with Sunline FX2 in 80lb.

New mojo bass. SNAPPED!
Usually damaged blank. Caused by getting banged on something. It usually takes the right amount of pressure/strain on that spot. Happens occasionally if you read all the forums on rods ranging from sub $100 to $500 and up. It's a Croix. You are probably covered under warranty.

First time frogger
No, I doubt it's your line. #1 question I have for you is what is your exact problem? For example: are you not hooking up? Are they coming unbuttoned? Are they burying you in the weeds and then coming off?

Need help choosing rods!!!
I personally like 7oz to 8oz reels on my heavy duty rods. Some others will probably say doesn't matter.

Need help choosing rods!!!
Not sure why 7'11" seems long. Too each his own I guess. Flipping rods are usually 7'6" to 8'. Sounds like your right in the right wheel house. As far as frog rod that can double as a swimbait rod. I like the Irod Fred's Magic Stick in the Fiber, Genesis 2, and Air line ups. I think your choices would serve you well.

Rod or reel more important for frog setup.
Rod. But a reel with a we weak drag and low torque can make getting those fish out a pain in the arse.

Irod Gen II Fred's Crank Launcher Jr.

LOL ? My post from 7 years ago.

Is rod sensitivity overrated?
Not sure what you meant, but I never said $150 rod wasn't sensitive. It's possible I wasn't clear and comparing it to the high end rods thought to be more sensitive because of the tech/materials put into them.

Is rod sensitivity overrated?
Rod sensitivity. I was thinking about this the other day. While I am ABSOLUTELY NOT saying this is not important, I think it is overrated. I look around at the better anglers I have fished with in clubs and leagues and most if not all are using $180 or less rods. Not too mention all the older rods with older tech they are still using. Then I started thinking about the some of the top Elite pros and what their rods cost and what tech the rods supposedly contain vs the upper echelon of rods. For example, most think of KVD as the greatest angler and he is using $150 Quantum rods, Aaron Martens is using $150 Enigma Rods, Skeet Reese is using Wright & McGill $100 rods, Jason Christie is using a $100 Falcons, not too mention all the BPS and Duckett sponsored pros. Compare this to the Tech and where anglers rank that use $300 to $700 rods and there is no comparison. Obviously skill is number 1 and rods are 2 or maybe even 3 on list of important tools to most anglers. Do you think companies just don't want to give these high dollar rods away and that's why more anglers don't fish them? Do you think sensitivity is overrated?
