BPS Extreme for crankin?

Featured Replies

Looking for opinions on using a 7' med./fast  Extreme rod for deep crankin. Anybody have any experience and/or useful input?

I use a 7'6" med. with retractable butt section for all my crankin. Works great for me. They're on sale at BPS for $69.97 too.

Not sure about the BPS extreme in particular but i have a medium rod and it does not do well for deep divers. It seemed like it was just underpowered for the weight and resistance that you get on the DD crankbaits. I even put a 4.7:1 reel on it to see if it would help but to no avail. Its great for everything up to about 10' .. I have since moved to a MH for deep crankin.

BPS Extreme rods are good rods. I don't have any experience with them cranking though. I think you'll be more than happy with it for cranking! Good luck  :D

BPS use to sell a few telescopic Extremes for crankin, I think they are part of the Woo Daves series.

Outstanding rod.

Go for it.

I would rather use it than my G. Loomis for crankbaits.

Pair it up with an E5.

I have the 7'mf Extreme - one of my favorite rods. Good for lipless cranks, lighter spinnerbaits & buzzbaits, shallow to medium cranking, etc. I've used it for Deep Little N's down to 12 feet or so. BUT, any deeper, I think you'd be happier with an MH.

Thanks for the replies. I was unsure about this rod because it seemed like it may be too stiff. It is a little bit stiffer than my 7'MF Pro Finnese-which I like for shallow/mid-depth cranks. But with what I'm reading about stiffer is better for deep runners, I think this will work well. I generally favor lighter action rods, so I'm not sure that I would like a MH, but the advice helps.

I read an article today that said Rick Clunn likes using 7' heavy rods for cranking sometimes. Talk about stiff! So I'm sure your rod will definitely work.

the Extreme XTR70MT-Crank is my deep/heavy cranking stick and i love it. these rods are a heavy rod which i like when tossing the bigger cranks.
