How often do you change your co-poly line?

Andy

I change mine every spring when I'm cleaning and lubing my reels. Probably not really necessary but I do it anyway. Used to leave it on forever until I started doing my own maintenance and never seemed to be a problem.

I imagine a lot of people on here will disagree with me, but.............I never change my line until the spool goes down from cutting, re-tying, and then I only replace about 50 yards.  In spite of not refilling every year or more, I have not ever lost a fish due to the line breaking.  I have lost one or two due to not retying after several fish and the knot broke....my fault, not the line.

Can't comment on co-poly, but I've left mono on for years with nary a problem. I doubt co-poly would be any different. I did change out my lines after having a 23 year hiatus from fishing because of the intense memory it had. Probably could have stretched it to remove the coils, but it wasn't worth the effort to me. Line still seemed as strong as ever.

i live in the northeast so I only fish 7 months out of the year. At the beginning of every season, I strip my line off, clean my reels, and re-spool new line. During the season I only change line if it starts to get memory (comes off the reel in coils). or If for some reason i have to cut off a lot of line, say a birdsnest or something like that. But copolomer line does last a long time on a reel

I change it pretty often because I like using relatively fresh line. For copoly, it's probably about once a month, except for my spinnerbait setup. That gets changed more often because it gets more use than any other combo. Whenever my copoly starts to get coily and show some memory I will replace it, because coily line doesn't cast as far and will not be as sensitive. Copoly is dirt cheap and I only replace the bare minimum with any line, usually 55-60 yards or so.
