Fluoro around timber/cover??

Featured Replies

What lb test do you guys like to throw around timber and other cover? I normally throw 12-15lb but I was watching a show and Stacey King said he likes 20lb around timber. It seems like overkill but he's a pretty good fisherman. The thing that got me was he was fishing stuff that wasn't any thicker than what I throw at. Just curious what you guys like?

Highest I go with Fluoro is 17# and even that seems excessive. But I'm not fishing for $$$$$ so....

and 15# Yo-zuri hybrid is super duper tough... Not true Flouro but close and cheap.

15 lb yozuri ultrasoft. IF I need to go heavier, I'll go to 20lb, same brand..OTH, if I'm flippin into real heavy cover, 55lb braid is my choice.

The only time I ever go as heavy as 20 is to keep a crank at a specific level.  Generally, anything more than 15lb is 65# braid.

I fish 12# Segaur InvisX in all but the most heavy wood cover.  If its what I consider heavy then I go to 15# Segaur Red Label.

Now that being said a big bass where i fish is in the 4+lb range and something in the 5lb+ range is a giant.  If I were fishing somewhere that a 6-8+ lber was a distinct possiblity then I could see going up to 20# in real thick stuff. :)

Weight of the fish does not dictate the line I use, the structure/cover does. You  can land a 8lb bass on 4lb test, trust me on this.. :)

Depends on how heavy the cover is but i usually throw 20lb flouro around big thick cover.  I agree with Hammer though dont let the size of the fish dictate what line to use, look at the cover and go from there.
