Lake Fork

Featured Replies

Will be fishing Lake Fork this Friday and Saturday.  What will the cold front (that is expected to come through) do to the fish there?  Any advice will be appreciated.

Bad front pushes through on T Giving day around 3 pm, and I haven't looked at weekend forecast yet.

To me, the fishing depends on when the wind shifts back.    I'll try to post as I see more of the weather.

Matt

Of course, you are going anyway, so go with your strengths before the front moves in if possible.  The first couple of hours WHEN the front is moving through should be good on the windy banks with blades and traps.  After that I think you have to back off to at least the outside grass lines with jigs or c-rig.  Creek channel bends, or when two small channels meet with wood should be hit hard as well.  Actually on Fork, especially, I like when a fall front moves in because the fish are more predictably and usually hold tight to cover.  Spring fronts down there are a different story.  ::)  Good Luck!

Cold fronts don't help the numbers game on most occassions, but tossing a jig during those conditions has been known to catch a toap of a lifetime.

Seems to me, those that brave the worsened conditions are often rewarded with a hefty toad from Fork.

At this time, I have no plans for, oops, Horns and Aggies on Friday, so I may be tied up on that mid afternoon day.    Saturday might be an option.

I know I willl be fishing somewhere sometime over the next few days.

Where will ya'll be launching from on Fork?    What will ya'll be riding in?

Thanks for the reply. We will be launching at Lake Fork Marina.

What will you guys be riding in?   What time?   Details man.

Friends tell me that the red/orange and firetiger trap bite has been good.

The trap is the best bet for numbers when cold fronts have pushed in, but the jig get the better fish consistently on frontal days when the bite is tough.

I'll be running White BassCat with Bevo on the motor.   Hookem Horns on both sides.

Hope to see you guys there.

We will be in a Procraft and launch early.  Thanks for the tip on the cranks.  I have also heard that the weightless tiki worm is producing some good fish.  Gotta tell you, I am excited.  Earlier in the year we caught good fish and several in the 6lb to 7lb class.  Looking to better that this trip.

Midways to the back of creeks has been productive where good grass is found.   If the other bite isn't working, try the traps on top and the edges of grass.    I had water on Cedar Creek that was 67.5 Sunday, so this cold front is not gonna shut them off for long if at all.

We'll be on the water some where, Green Durango with BassCat.

Sorry we didn't make it out.   You saw tthe weather yourself.    Drizzel and cold with some wind in the mix.   Never saw it get above 41.

Guess i'm not the die hard I once was.

Matt

They will still bite there after a front but you will have to slow down and use cincos and slow falling baits! Solid black cincos!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty good trip to Fork.  Caught several in the 3 to 5 range.  We were fishing for the 5' to 12' bite.  Probably should have gone a bit deeper.  I have never fished Fork this time of year before, so wasn't confident in the deeper bite, but will be going back in a few weeks and will stay with the deeper bite.

What was working for you guys?   What areas did yall fish?

I hit Fork yesterday and was surprised at how fast the temp has dropped.  Warmest water I found was 54 degrees up in Glade.  Fished from shallow grass in 5' to creek channels at 25' for only about 5 hours.

Caught just one about 2 pounds and 4 pound cat.  Man that cat hit like a ton of bricks, thought I had a good one for a second.  big

This last front over Thanksgiving must have dropped her fast with all the cold rains that was in the front.

When you go into Glade, do you ever venture to the bank on the right as you enter Glade.

Some good grass on that stretch and bass like that rounded bank.

I'm tied up on CC for the next two weeks.       WhiteOak is just past the 515 bridge before you hit Birch.     There is WhiteOak bay also further up in the NW arm above the 2496 bridge.

Some very good grass in the middle arm, and red traps dominate the winter grass in that area.   WhiteOak branch into 3 fingers, right , left and middle.    Also back out to where all three join.     Deep and some huge trees mark the channel of the intersection.    Some hawgs come from those channels.

If and when I can get out there, I;ll post where and what.

Matt

Yep, the point on back to the pond dam is loaded with grass and usually good numbers of fish.  Mostly fished Rogers and Glade.  Still some grass in Rogers but not what it had a couple months ago.  The wind was blowing a good 20 mph out there yesterday or I would have got around a little more.
