conserverebel
Lake Fork is quickly becoming my favorite place to fish. Have only been on the Lake 4 times, but it has been a productive 4 trips. Living just outside of Bryat I was hesitant to try this lake, but am certainly glad I did. It is 240 miles from my house to the Hwy. 515 Boat ramp. Makes for a long day!!!! Friday, made the trip. Only caught 5, but two were in the 6lb range, and one was 8lb 3oz. Will be going back in a couple of weeks. I was going for the shallow bite. All but one were caught on weightless tiki in watermelon with black flake. Post pics soon.
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 13, 2008 Super User Share Posted January 13, 2008 Congrats on your catch. It is one of my favorites also. I make the trip from Houston 4-6 times a year.
ring fry
Sounds like a decent day that was well worth the trip. I make the trip to Fork 5 - 6 times a year from Kansas. If I were y'all, I think I would make a few more trips. Increase the odds for that SAL and/or personal best.

What?!?!?!?!? It only took me about 45 minutes on the lake the very first time to catch a 10-8 new PB ;D ;D ;D Then about an hour later my dad caught a new PB a little over 8 lbs. Our second day of the trip all we did was catch measly 4 to 5 lb'ers all day long. That was probably my single most fun day of fishing as far as quantity goes. Not a bad lake ;D
BassChaser57
I call Lake Fork "Lake Lottery" as it is a bit like playing the lottery. You may not get anything for awhile but you can surely hit it big at any moment. I have seen lake Fork very stingy with it's fish but have also seen days on the lake I will always remember. Congrats on a great day.

I guess this is why I should not play the lottery Left Fri mornin pulled my boat all the way down to Fork Sun up to sundown Saturday throwed traps, jigs, senkos etc. to no avail. Return trip on Sunday As they say "Lots of fishin and no catchin!" but had a great weekend travelin with my son and enjoyed that Texas hospitality! I've fished Fork 40 or 50 days and have had my arse kicked and have days where I couldn't believe how may 7 - 9 pounders were in one area. Clayton
Im just gald to hear that I am not the only one getting skunked! I have been to the lake a few times and only caught two fish! I dont live far from it so I go when I can with great expectations but when I get down there I dont ever catch anything. I am planning on giong soon, probably Feb, and will be using crawfish rattletraps of all sizes and crawfish crankbaits that run difff depths, and I will be pulling em through the grass. Sounds easy enough right? Yeah thats what thought last year and I didnt catch squat.

RWHusker.
Going to fish with Tom Redington for 2 1/2 days at the end of the month. Please lets only post positive trips, no negative thoughts. :( We spent 5 days last year and 3 of those days I was the only one out of 3 to boat a fish. 25 total in 5 days with 3 fisherman, quality not quantity but cant wait to get back GO BIG RED
conserverebel
For whatever its worth, while your throwing the traps, you might try one with a bit of chartreuse on it. There is one that is red craw on top and chartreuse on the belly. Also, the weightless wave, bamboo stick in watermelon with black flake fished really, really, sloooowwwwww seems to work well. Just what has worked for me.

Mine was basically a spur of the moment trip. so a few days with someone who knows how to run the lake will be very helpfull. Let us know how it goes
RWHusker.
I'd take me a little trip over to Tom Redington's web site Thanks Catt, have been there picture drooling since we booked the trip. Right now I'm stringing reels and trying to get over being cheap. Tom says 50# + and I hate the thought of stripping it off when I get home to go lighter. And thanks again for preparing Pelini for NE. GO BIG RED
BassChaser57
Tom will put you on fish if you can cast where he tells you. I have seen other Lake Fork Guides that had to cast for the clients as they could not hit the sweet spot. I have even seen them hook the fish and give the client the rod to reel it in. I am sure this is not the case with you but I always practice alot before heading to Fork. Good Luck

Clayton
Clayton, must not be too terrible according to the picture in your avator! HAHA yeah, that was the only fish I saw come out of the water that day! DOnt get me wrong I love the lake but it puts up a hell of a fight when it comes to letting her fish bite for me anyways. Good luck to all this year, my boat is under the nife but as soon as she is ready I am gonna fish like hell!
