Scented spray on your lures?

Featured Replies

Does anyone spray their lures before they use them with scent?  I have used it rarely, but was wondering if anyone thought it really helped them out a lot, and what kind you use.

I use scent on everyting I throw. A quick spray of Bang crawfish formula will cover up all the smells on your baits from you handleing such as gas or other smells bass might not like. If I want a longer lasting scent I will use megastrike which stays on forever. Hope this helps.

I don't fish plastics or jigs without hosing them with scent.  I don't think it actually 'attracts' fish, but I do believe it can prevent sampling by masking unnatural odors and giving your plastic a familiar taste and/or texture.  The scents I use are oil based and make your plastic bait slimy like a real worm, lizard, or frog, which I feel buys you an extra second or two.  I buy whatever I can find on sale that comes in an aerosol.  Aerosol sprays are the least messy, and the quickest to dispense.

Scent is confidence thing. If you have confidence, you will catch fish. :)

Yes, Jack's Juice.

Just remember to see which way the wind is blowing so the spray does not come back on you.

It can mess up your glasses (sun or otherwise) and make you smell like a crawfish or shad.

We have had some heated discussions on the value of attracants on our baits so some guys use scents and others do not.

In his book, Knowing Bass, The Scientific Apporach to Catching More Fish, Dr. Keith Jones says that oil based scents cannot be smelled by a bass as they cannot pick up the oil molecules.

But it is a confidence appliaction and I don't think it can hurt.

So use it if you want.

And if you are going to use an attractant, use Megastrike in the tube.

It is not messy and easy to use.

Or JJ's Magic.  Just dip and go. Just don't spill it.

Or make your own with cooking oil and anise or vanilla flavorings.

Or use Dr. Jones secret receipe which I do not give out.  Sorry.

Or just spit on it for good luck. :)

I use attractants for two purposes first as a lubricant because I fish in grass a lot and it helps my plastic baits slide through easier.  I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of pure anise oil added; this is to mast any odor my plastic may have pick up.

I use Berkley Bass Attractant on my plastics...

If the bite is tuff I use Bang shad on my hardbaits.  I actually enjoy the smell.

As T-rig said, it gives me confidence.

Megastrike on my soft plastics, Yum Crawfish spray on my jigs.

i used to use scents, but finally weened my self off

you cxan catch just as much without it, but it does help give the lure a slippery surface, helps with hangups

speaking of Yum Crawfish.....after using that stuff i feel like i just ate All you can eat King crab legs...

those smells bother me....that garlic stuff got all over my tackle and ruined my life for about 2 months!
