Choke Canyon

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me some background on Choke Canyon Reservoir in Texas? Water clarity, cover type, early spring patterns, etc. Thanks.

26,000 acres, water is anywhere from clear to staind, usually somewhere in the middle, early spring is spawn time.  cover consist of flooded huisache, mesquite, coves, points, channels, road beds, flooded tank dams etc, etc.

I fished it for the first time in Oct. and I was impressed.  The lake has some hugh bass in it.  The description in the above post is very accurate. We caught most of the bass at the edge of the weedline on soft plastics.  I was told that Dec in the river was really hot. You are going to hear allot about this lake in the near future.

As long as mother nature keeps water in Choke, Amistad, and Falcon, they'll continue to produce.

And as seen over the last ten years they were 50+ft low, they didn't fish as well and the big fish didn't show up like they are now.

Sure worth a trip as they are now!!!!!
