prorope
Anyone have a recent bass fishing report on Big Sam? Any update would be appreciated. How high is the water and are they drawing it down? 8-)
Super User Catt Posted April 14, 2008 Super User Share Posted April 14, 2008 04/14/08 Current level: 164.68 Currently Releasing: 4277 cfs Some bass are on beds, some bass are guarding fry, and some bass are just sitting in the shade. The 3 things to key on 1) beds 2) fry 3) SHADE. Shade consistent pattern of the 3 and will remain until the fish leave the bushes. Green willows, green buck brush, and shade from shadows are all good spots to cast right now. Senkos, wacky worms, super flukes, jerk baits, and top waters. The better pattern later in the day was throwing spinner baits and jerk baits on windy buck brush points or on the bushes in the back of the windy coves. The deeper bushes were the key. Use a 3/8oz Stanley Titanium spinner bait in Catawba (chart/wht/blk/silver) and keep it within an inch or two of the surface. Stanley buzz bait (chrt/wht) in the top of a bush. You can also flip a tube on these same spots and get bit. Tommy T
Super User Matt Fly Posted April 14, 2008 Super User Share Posted April 14, 2008 Water is finally moving up into the buck brush. With the upcoming Sealy's Big Bass Splash and over a half million to be given out, lips will be tight. I'd say fish the 10-20 ft grass for the big bite. Lots of small bass has pushed into the buck brush and some checks will be one shallow, but the 125,000.oo fish has been caught deep most years. Frog bite is really picking up shallow. prorope
Thanks for the reports! I would have thought the lake would be up in the picknick tables as much rain as we have had here in north Texas since last summer ;D ;D.
Super User Matt Fly Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Share Posted April 15, 2008 They always draw the lake down coming out of the winter to prevent massive flooding down stream. They just didn't get the rain or as much as they needed to bring her to pool.
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 18, 2008 Super User Share Posted April 18, 2008 Fished a tournament last Saturday. Early caught them pitching a watermelon/red baby brushhog and a senko in the bushes. The water around Caney Creek is 3-4 ft in the bushes. Later in the day moved out into the creeks and culled out a small limit on crankbaits and worms( black/blue, watermelon/red). My better fish were out in the creeks. Caught several on a black/blue jig with same color Gene Larue crawworm also. Water is off color up the Angelina and the Attoyac. Still fish on the beds. They did show a preference for chasing bait after about 11:00 am
