Minnesota?

Featured Replies

I have, but it's not home for me. If you like smallies, fish the tributaries and the Mississippi itself if possible.  Excellent smallie fishing.  Also, you can get a Metro fishing guide free from the Minnesota DNR which lists about a jillion small lakes to fish around the Metro area. Check the fishing Minnesota website also for more info.

I fish the twin cities metro and surrounding lakes quite frequently.  It is where I live.

The best, or should I say, most famous bass lake around here in Minnetonka.  It has a great LM and SM populations and its not too crazy during the week.  Weekends and evenings are crazy due to its proximity to the city.

There are plenty of great lakes for fishing around here, and the Mississippi is right here too.  There is a lot of great fishing, let me know if you have questions.

You ever fished Ham Lake? Or Coon Lake? Or Forest Lake?

Check out the MN DNR lake finder.  You can find lots of good information on each lake.

Ham lake is pretty shallow and weedy, tough to fish.

Of those three Forest lake is probably your best bet.

Really. I didnt think so. Ive caught a 6 pound bass in there and many pikes. We just use chatterbaits or jigs and it works very nice.

I live an fish the metro area. Only been to Forest outta the 3, but it was Ice fishing. I've herd Forest does have decent bass fishing.

Yea, and good musky.

You catch some nice musky outta forest?? I'm doing a musky tournament for the first time this year.

Is there good bank fishing at the lakes in the area?

I am going to be in Coon Rapids from May - August on an internship and hope to do some fishing.  Mainly nights and weekends.

Sorry to jack the thread

Good shore fishing is pretty easy to find.  It can be tough as the weeds get pretty thick along the shore.  But most of the lakes have nice fishing docks in pretty good spots.

Also, in that neck of the woods don't overlook the upper mississippi river.  Easy to fish from shore, and full of great fishing.

Ham Lake has a large fishing pier and its easy to catch bass/pike off of it. And they are not small fish. Coon Lake has nice fishing too.
