Son is going to Boundry Waters, What to take?

Featured Replies

My son Chad is going to the Boy Scout's high adventure base at the Boundry Waters in Minnesota for a week long canoe trip next month.  He can only take a small amount of tackle with him and I have no idea what kind of lures and stuff to get for him.  Can anybody tell me what he needs for lures, line, etc.?  Thanks, big

went up to MN last summer. we mostly jigged for walleye but other people were using spoons and in-line spinners.

a couple packs of senkos, topwater (zara puppy or jitterbug) spoons for pike and a random assortment of jigs for walleye. I usually bring alot more than that but i usually only use what i mentioned.

hope that helps

Yep, he's been warned about the bugs.  All the boys are supposed to bring netting to sleep in.  I'm also sending one of those tiny bottles of Tabasco for extra protection, lol.  Bert

A couple shad raps, small ones in crawdad color and maybe perch.

Some jig heads, some of those gulp minnows to tip them with.  Or some grubs.  Yum Crawbugs.  I have the best of luck with dark natural colors and small lures.

I typically just throw some crankbaits around the different rocks, and then jig the flats for walleyes or bass or whatever.  Take a couple top waters as was suggested too.

It never hurts to throw in some hooks sinkers, and a bobber or 2 either.

Definately steel leaders!!  a few 12" at 30-50 lbs should be sufficient.

For a good time w\ northern, pick up a red/white dardevle, a 5 of diamonds, and a pounded copper.  Those are the most successful spoons I have used up in the northwoods.
