St. Croix River

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I'm pretty new to fishing the Croix for smallies. I'm fishing in the MN/WI area from stillwater to the marine on the st. croix. What have you been most sucessful with? Any tips? I'm really new to smallie fishing. Thanks!

We have fished the northern part around Taylor's Falls, and have had the best luck on small grubs, or crankbaits.  DT4s in crawdad.

i live right by the st. croix, and i have caught some smallies on a beetle spin lol. but that was a while back when i just wanted to catch fish, and jsut not bass

MN Basser,

I was out there last weekend fishing for walleyes.  We caught a lot of smallies trolling med. diving shad raps and walleye cranks in about 10-15 feet of water on some of the flats.  We also pitched tubes and fished shallow cranks in and around marinas and rock piles/breaks.

I can't remember the name of the marina where we had the most luck, but it was about a 10 minute boat ride south of the hudson marina on the minnesota side.

Unfortunately we were dead set on catching dinner so we didn't work real hard for smallies, but for the hour that we tried, we probably boated about 10 of them, two of which were probably in the 3-4lb. range.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice. I was on the hudson marina and had luck with senkos and 1/4oz spinnerbaits.

Does any one know where Never's landing on the Criox is ?  Was out there on Friday.  My first time on the St. Croix and I was pumped.  Fished senko's whacky style and got a couple.  Missed About a 4-5# smallie.  That made me very sad. :'(  Anyway with the high water and the wind, it was still an awesome trip.  Looking forward to coming back.
