BWCA - lake Insula - late Aug

Featured Replies

hello. ill be doing a 5 day fishing trip in the boundary waters canoe area in late august. i will be base camping in lake Insula in the northern part. what type of presentations do you recommend for small mouth in the BWs? i heard its rocky and pretty clear water so i was thinking of football jigs (craw trailers), 4 and 5 inch senkos, fat ikas, grubs and tubes. ill prob also try drop shot with finesse worms.

anyone had any luck up there with these presentations? what else would you recommend?

thanks in advance

I was up in the bwca in lake june and we caught some very nice smallmouth don't remember fishing that lake though. Senkos, and fat ikas are what I caught most on but I also used them the most. Soft plastics were tops worms, flukes, tubes, and grubs.  Deep diving cranks, suspending jerks baits, floating rapalas, top waters, spinner baits and buzzbaits also caught alot of fish.  Good luck and have fun.
