Good Public Fishing Spots in Louisiana

Featured Replies

Hey, we might be able to get an old boat up and running sometime soon. Does anyone know of any good lakes or something in or around Louisiana that is known for good bass fishing? I am hoping we can go to Toledo-Bend and Caney Lake because I have heard good things about both of them.

Where in Louisiana y'all at  :D

I would stay away from Caney just because it is so hard to fish.  There are lots of big fish in there, but now that the grass is gone, you almost have to have good electronics to find any fish at all.  Toledo is always a good choice because you can at least catch something on your favorite bait in your favorite water depth.  It all depends on what part of LA you live in.  If you live in central LA like I do, then I would recommend Saline/Larto.  I have been catching pretty good numbers and size out there lately.  Also, Cane River is hard to beat.  there are just so many good fisheries here in Louisiana its hard to choose. :D

Just a thought, but have you considered the Atchafalaya Basin?  It's only thirty minutes away.  With modern electronics, hardly anyone gets lost in there anymore.

i have heard so much goodness coming out of lake cataouatche. everyone that i know that has gone there has come back with an 8lb or better bass, and had nothing but good to talk about the lake.

toledo bend is also a great lake, i make at least one trip there a year.

but i live on the northshore, i fish tangipahoa river a lot, but theres also tickfaw river and natalbany which have always produced for me. these rivers are all in the hammond area. theres also bayou cane and lacombe right passed mandeville, oh and you can't forget tchefuncte river in madisonville.
