Bank fishing around KC

Featured Replies

As a college student I don't have my own boat so what are some good places to bank fish around the KC area. Thanks for the help. :D and i live on the missouri side

James A. Reed lakes would be your best bet on the Missouri side. You may try checking out Missouri Fish & Game website.

On the Kansas side, there's quite a few community lakes to try. http://kdwp.state.ks.us/news/Fishing/Where-to-Fish-in-Kansas/Fishing-Locations-Public-Waters/Region-2

Revo has you on the right track.  I don't fish the Missouri side much, but the few times I have, the James Reed Lakes have been easily accessible and easy to pattern for bass.

Do you own waders?  If you do, good fishing can be had at any of the larger KS/MO metro lakes, especially in the spring or fall.  Top lakes on my <20 mile list include: shawnee mission park, kill creek, lake olathe, cedar creek, gardner city lake (LMB virus impacted big fish the past couple of years), Lake Lenexa, longview, and the previously mentioned JAR ponds.  All will provide good LMB opportunities.  My goal is to catch some hybrids out of Blue Springs Lake this spring!

That's a pretty good starting point.  Good luck!

If you come to the Kansas side get a FISH atlas and you can find a ton of small lakes and ponds in the Johnson and Wyandotte county areas. Some of them you have to pay additional fees to fish so you have to be careful with that. For numbers and size though I don't think you could go wrong with James A. Reed. I've only been out there a couple times since I have a boat and avoid bank fishing whenever possible but the few times I've been there I haven't had any trouble catching fish and I've heard of some big ones being caught there.
