bigtimfish
I signed up for a drawing to win a 2 or 3 day fishing trip to this lake. I know I will not win, but is this lake any good? Any other info would be nice. Thank you in advance.
Jay_G
Who's giving away a trip to Mateos? Anyway, yes, it is a very large and beautiful lake. Mateos is known as a spinnerbait lake and you can catch large numbers of bass there. Not as many big fish caught as some of the others, but still plenty of 8-10lb fish caught each season. bassturbator
I fished Lake Mateos in 1991 and we caught over 65 bass over 5 lbs fishing at night under the full moon. We also caught fish during the day but the numbers were not nearly as good. The biggest fish caught was a 9.5 lb bass on a Pop R. All the fish at night were caught on black spinner baits. The lake was closed for some years due to low water in this canyon lake and the tremendous fish kill which occurred. The lake reopened in the last few years and fishing is supposed to be really good. This lake is very remote and there were only 3 fisherman on the entire lake while we were there.
