Fishing Juniata River near Mexico, Pa

Featured Replies

Has anyone fished the Juniata River around Mexico, Pa area ? Where is a good place to put in, best time of the year, is it best for smallmouth or other kind of fish and of course the bait. Lots of questions but never have fished there.

Thanks...

I live in Mifflintown, so I have had lots of chances to fish around mexico.  If you have the time to do it you should put in above mifflintown at the junes drivein access, and then float down to mexico.  If that is to long a float (takes a couple of hours depending on how often you stop to fish an area)  Just put in at mexico and go up river a ways and then float back.  Sorry I do not know the area below mexico access real well.  As far as bait goes, I use motor oil twister tails on jig heads, rebel crabs, jerk baits, pumpkin tube baits, small crank baits.  Hope this helps, anything else I can tell you that will help just ask.

Matt

That seems like a pretty long float Matt. Putting in at Mexico and floating to Muskrat Springs would be a decent float. There's deeper than average water, from what I remember from the last time I made that float. The last part of the float does get on the shallow side but I've still seen 20" smallies come out of that section.

Thanks guys. If the weather is good this weekend I'll be heading up to Mexico to give the Juniata a try. If you have any other things you would like to pass on, I'm all ears.

Chambersburg? Who in their right mind would live there?  ;D

M-Gunner.

Where are you located in MD? Good luck if you do get out!
