What have you been using to...

Featured Replies

Jiggin: usual structure/depth.  But if you notice beds, run a swim or crank by them. Been getting 2 pounders off topwater (my new Rage Toads), early morning, over shallow structure and pads. No pigs yet. Maybe this weekend We'll see. :;)

Let me just take this time (real quick) to comment on those Rage Toads. I LOVE THEM! Their like a suspending/buzzbait in one. I hook it weedless and throw it anywhere. Wanna imitate a real frog? let it sink to depth then jerk-jerk............. jerk-jerk. Wanna buzz it on top? Cast and retrieve immediately. The legs kick like a buzzbait. Anyone else using these?

Jigs on shallow boat docks and spinnerbaits or jerkbaits on rocky wind-blown points. IT'S ON!!!!

ive been using the 2.5 inch yum baby crawbug around rockpiles and are catching alot alot of  smallies   havent figured out the largemouth bite yet

For SM I've been using suspending jerkbaits. Especially the Lucky Craft Pointer I have in a matte perch pattern.

For LM I've been getting them on jigs pitched to shallow brushpiles/laydowns/grass/etc.  I've also been getting them on crankbaits, and jerkbaits and I've been doing AMAZING on a drop shot rigged up witha Roboworm 4" Alive Shad/Yamamoto Shad Shape Worm/YUM 6" Big Show Paddle worm.

Unfortunately, on the weedier lakes I fish, the pads have already grown in along with all the weeds, so I can't do anymore jerkbait fishing there. But I was catching a bunch on X-Raps, Pointers, inline spinners, mini crankbaits, and wakebaits.

Now I've pretty much totally switched over to soft jerkbaits (YUM Houdini Shad, Fin-S, and flukes), frogs (Gambler cane toads, Zoom horny toads), Ragetail Shad (I need to try out the rage toad), and Berkley blade dancers (the weedless kind with the skirt - these baits are amazing). Also have caught a few on senkos and drop shot. Oh, and some nice night fish on the black/blue chatterbait.

Most of my fish have been coming from two yo-zuri jerkbaits.

The one I caught yesterday I was fishing through some nice plants (not sure the name of the weeds)

Pretty much either a steady retrieve or a quick stop and go

I also have been getting some hits/catches on senkos 4 and 5 inch

Various colors

Working them slow

lately i been catching fish on wacky worms and senkos around weeds.  I caught some on a swimbait this year so far, I havent thrown it much.  and shakey heads around beds.  Smallmouth I always fish with a little jerkbait and a little sammie tied on.  I have also caught a few fish on creature baits

Shakeyhead, Shakeyhead, Shakeyhead and Shakeyhead.  I know this sounds too limited, but I have caught so many fish on this method with Greenpumpkin Zoom finesse worms w/tail dipped in Chartruese Spike-it that I can't bring myself to throw anything else.

This pattern will work all year long and in any conditions!

I have caught fish with this method deep, on beds, on shallow structure, on rocks, on flats, and on points.  It also works in any weather condition (i.e. Coldfront, Dog days of summer, Winter), it just doesn't matter.

If I only had one bait to throw...this would be it!
