what was your biggest northeast bass of 2009
Didn't have a scale with me! > I will only say it was over 7lbs, because I have a 7 mounted and it was bigger than mine. Anybody want to guess what it weighed? Caught on the Potomac, in the grass, on a frog.

Maryland's Who's who!
All this snow has put a hold on my plans to fish this week...I have a very long, narrow drive way to start off with and I have to back my boat all the way up. It is now even thinner because of shovelling a path. I am sure that I can get my boat out, but getting it back in is going to be a chore. I don't know if it is worth it? We really need a good rain to melt some of this stuff, but then again that will muddy up the Potomac and ruin the fishing! What's a guy to do?

Maryland's Who's who!
Hey Basser89, thanks for the information. I was going to try week after next sometime, I think? I need to confirm that though. What do you think the the water temp is right now, and do you think that the Smallmouth will still be biting tubes? My mounted depthfinders on my boat don't work (I wonder if Santa will bring me one?) I do have a portable unit that works though. Would you like to join me?

Maryland's Who's who!
I have a 17' BassTracker with a 50 hp Suzuki prop motor. Is it safe to put this boat in above Dam 4? And how far will I be able to run up stream? Is there any other "safe" water above Dam 4 for a prop engine?

Maryland's Who's who!
It's been a long time since I posted here. Just haven't taken the time. Here is a couple of fish I caught over the Thanksgiving Holiday while I was visiting down in Georgia. The Stripers (16LBs and 17Lbs) are landlocked and the bass (4LBs) is a Spotted Bass, which you won't find too many of here in Maryland. I thought you might also like seeing a 7.5LB Pig I caught on a frog on the Potomac in the early Fall... I am planning to make a trip to Dam 4 soon to see if I can get some Walleye. I have heard they stack up below the dam during the winter. Can anyone confirm that?

Maryland's Who's who!
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I was on here. Been fishing many times since that last time and have caught many fish. Went twice last week to Rocky Gorge and here are a couple of pictures from the outings.

You might look up Patoka Reservoir, not too far, but worth the drive.

Maryland's Who's who!
I am still trying to decide if I am going or not. I know that one of my daughters has a basketball game at 12:15 on Saturday, so it would have to be in the afternoon.

Maryland's Who's who!
Here is a picture of a couple of the bass my buddy and I caught on the Potomac on 12/30 as mentioned above. The biggest was 4.6 lbs. IMG]http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm275/bassinmike/PotomacBass.jpg

who here misses fishing?
I went fishing the day before yesterday on the Potomac, went to a warm water discharge and had a pretty decent day! I caught one on a Terminator Spinnerbait that went 4.6 lbs. Between me and my partner, we caught around 20 bass and ended up snagging 4 giant carp on cranks. Water temp in that creek was running between 55-60 degrees. Crazy to be doing that well in the middle on winter, but I was loving it!

Help! - Skipping
I absolutely live to skip docks! This is my favorite technique and love it when the bass are relating to the docks. You have already gotten a lot of great advise from people probably a lot more knowledgeable than me, but there is one thing that I would add: It is far easier to skip a soft plastic when the weight is attached to the hook. I use a Charlie Brewer Sliderhead to fish everything from finesse baits to six inch lizards and beyond. And one more thing: The only way to get better is to practice, practice, practice. There are still days when I am more accurate than others. It is just a matter of doing it over and over. Hope this helps.

Maryland's Who's who!
Went to another warm water discharge on the Potomac yesterday with a friend in his boat. WE CLEANED UP! We ended up catching at least 15 quality fish. The water temp was 55 to 60 degrees and I caught a 4.6 pounder on a Terminator spinnerbait. Hard to believe that I was catching fish in Maryland in the middle of winter on a spinnerbait. We caught fish on everything from crankbaits to soft plastics. We also ended up snagging several 10-12 pound carp. Man can those things pull when they are snagged. It was a great day on the water. The air temp was also decent. We were close to 60 degrees today. FISHING SEASON NEVER CLOSES!

Maryland's Who's who!
Went to Dickerson today, caught about 20 dinks (smallmouth about 8-10 inches). Also hooked into something with that broke my line, probably a catfish. The water was high, but it was my first time there so I don't know exactly how high it was. I caught all of mine on 2 inch Storm curl tails. I plan on going again this weekend sometime. Hopefully there will be some bigger ones in there.

Maryland's Who's who!
I plan on going the day after Christmas. It is supposed to warm up a little (50 on Christmas Day). Hopefully it will be good on the 26th.

Magazine Cover
yeah...I wasn't trying to portray that I was really on the cover of a magazine. I hope that no one took it that way. The cover has the website mentioned right on it. I think this would be a great Christmas present for your fishing buddies.

Actually...this was last March. I was fishing with my father and brother in Northern Georgia. I caught all three of these fish within 20 yards of each other on a chartruse spinner bait. They all weighed over 6 pounds and I kept them long enough to snap the picture and they were released right afterward. It was a great day of fishing and with some of the greatest company (family) and provided memories to last a lifetime.

your first experiences
I was in a club for a number of years as a non-boater. Nearly everyone in our club was a lot of fun to fish with. However, like the previous poster said...there are exceptions. I guess you got to take the bad with the good. I really didn't have a problem as a non-boater though because we had a rule that for half of the day the non-boater got to choose the fishing hole and got to run the trolling motor, and believe me there were times when I took advantage of that rule. I was in the club for six years and I qualified for our state tournament every year I fished, and for the most part it was at these state tournaments that I had the most rude boaters. Attend a club meeting or two before you fish to see if you get along with the group, if not find another one and attend their meetings. And then just fish and have fun.

Nice!! ;D Right after that picture was taken I headed right to the barber shop! I figured it was falling out anyway so I might as well save on hair cutting expenses and just shave it all off. Saves money for the bait monkey! ;D

Noobie question: How to use JIGS?
I think the best advice I have ever been given is to observe what it is that you are trying to mimic. A jig is a crawdad imitator, so what you are trying to do is make your jig look and act like a craw. I try to vary my return to make it more realistic. As you probably already know, bass love to strike out of reaction. Watch how a craw escapes from prey. They swim backward at a fast rate and not at a constant cadance. It is kind of like "jerk-jerk-jerk-pause-jerk." And then the bite usually happens when I stop, either on the fall or once it hits bottom. Sometimes I just craw it along the bottom, other times I twitch it once and let it sit a few seconds. It all depends on how active the fish are and how they are reacting on that particular day. And water temp is another factor. Remember, the crawdad is in the water too and they will act accordingly (more active some days more lethargic on others). I hope this is all making sense? Jigs are awesome it the right situation. I hope you have fun learning.

On your shakey heads...
I use the Charlie Brewer Sliderhead. It just has a notch in the shank by the weight. I have been using this method for 6-8 years and absolutely love it--year round.
