South Branch of the Potomac

Featured Replies

just went on a two day float downt the river in WV/MD and only caught 15 all weekend   only one was decent size.  just wondering if anyone out there fishes this river and why the fish are not biting right now

I know a guy that fishes there all the time, for trout.  They catch trophy trout out of those waters but they said the bass are just further down the river.  I have no clue I havent fished the south branch yet

The past few times I've hit the Potomac in Washington county, I've had decent luck. Largest smallie might have been around 17". I've been cathcing mine on a number of baits. Cranks, tubes and Tiki sticks. My last time out (last evening), I landed 8 smallies. 5 on cranks and 3 on a tube. Had 5 more come unbuttoned on the fight on the cranks. The retrieve was key for me! I'd crank it down and then go into a pull pause retrieve. I'd do a 2 count pause (one thousand one-one thousand two) and they were crushing it! Hope this helps!
