RI Proposed New tournament permit Law

Featured Replies

If you fish or orginize tournaments in RI you need to read this. The red sections are the changes. We can't allow this to happen. Tournanents will have to be from 8pm to noon. Thy will effect all orginized fishing in RI including C.A.S.T and the P.V.A. there is a public hearing on this matter June 10th at the Warwick Police Station. We should show up in force and make sure we are heard.

I also posted this in the tournaments section

First off, so we are clear, this means that night tourny's ONLY will be permitted.  8PM till noon the following day.

Big thanks for the heads up John

Rally time!

I will call Bob Nero and see if he can attend also.  See you there.  Time to make the time boys, we need your attendance on this one.  Bring friends too.  Numbers talk.

BH- I'll get this on a few of the other New England forums for you.

I'm live in MA can I still attend??

Also it says that it's considered a tourney with any more the 6 or more persons.. So how will they know if people are together fishing..

This really looks to put a damper on things..

I'll help any way that is needed..

I have not seen much response to this post. Is there not alot off tourny guys on here. I hope you win the battle. Give me a time and place for a defenite and I will be there even though I do not fish tournies.  I have seen this with other groups 10 percent of the group does 99 percent of the work.  Remeber if they get this there will be other things to follow trust me I know personally.

I found this sentence to be pretty interesting.

"Municipal regulations will supersede those of the state."

What is the attitude of the cities and towns compared to the state? Will they really be able to supersede everything, like the time of day, limits of of one tournament per body of water, etc?

Unfortunately there my be Three body's of water that are controlled the city's that thy are in. Out of those only two really have a permitting process and those two are controlled by the providence parks dept and are pay to play $150 for 4 hrs for non providence residents and $75 for residents.

Hey guys my A.D.D must be kicking in I didn't see much of a change from previous rules and regs? RI trout waters have always been off limits? Is it the change in dates that's the issue?

Thanks,

Your concerend A.D.D dyslexic fisherman :)

Here it is.

1.16 ll organized fishing activities, i.e. tournaments, must be permitted through RIDEM

on all freshwaters of the state regardless of access. A minimum of 6 persons is

considered an organized fishing activity requiring a permit. If access is municipal or

a private ramp, an additional permit may be required from the municipality or

private entity. Municipal regulations will supersede those of the state. It shall be

the responsibility of the fishing organization to obtain said additional permit.

No more than one permitted, organized fishing activity may be held on a freshwater

body during the same time period.

This does not supersede any special boat ramp or state management area state

regulations, except as described below.

Organized fishing activities, i.e. tournaments as described above, will be held only

during the hours 8 PM through 12 Noon the next day.

It will be the sole responsibility of each permitted organized fishing group to e-mail

the registrations of participating vessels to RIDEM 72 hours before the activity.
