lure retriever

Do the wire ones work for getting lures out of trees to, or just the telescoptic ones.

And can you get these at walmart, or gander mountain?

Not sure what one you are talking about specifically but .....

A few years ago I just bought the one that is a big heavy ring with a few hook thing-a-ma-jigs hanging off it. Attach it to your line and let it slide down. I particularly like this one because it can get your lure back in more than one way

1. It can knock it loose

2. It can grab your lure with the hooks

3. It can grab whatever you are snagged on and either move it, break it, or bring it up

These things work surprisingly well. Some times you have to take some time and mess around with it, but you almost always get your lure back. I can only think of 1 crankbait I didn't get back the past 3 years. And that was because the wind was making it a real pain.

This is the one I use for everything from dropshots to 11oz swimbaits.

It used to just be tied on to a length of cord wrapped around an old line spool, then i used it on one of my marker bouys, I just built the "Uber Knocker" Spiral wrapped for all the custom rod builders, lol

I was fishing with some retired guys for crappie this winter, they used a spark plug bent the end in, and put a swivel on it.  It worked everytime, pretty much the weight of the plug knocks the lure loose, i have one in my tacklebox now

Do these things work when you snag a tube or jig, or just cranks?

I'm diggin it.... wish I had an extra rod/reel like that sitting around!!!

I use the BPS lure retriever and have not lost a lure from a boat yet.  I have gotten jigs, worms with Tru Tungsten weights and crankbaits back.  The biggest obsticle to getting lures back lately has been old fishing line.  Your bait can get hung up in old line and be a pain to get back.  Braid will make it really difficult to get a lure back but once you get the chain or ring on the lure you will get it back.

bigbadaaron,

I didn't even know that they had telescopic ones until you mentioned it.  I just found one at BPS.  I think the rope ones work best.  This is the one that I have and it works great....Cheep too!

I have 2 like in the picture above and have not lost a lure from the boat in over a year. As for the telescopic retrievers BPS never had any in stock so I use a light bulb changer from Wal-Mart. This retriever works best to get your buddies lures out of the trees and doubles as a small push pole.

I use the Go-Get-It lure retriever. You can find it at another site.com. I've used it for years and it's saved me a lot of money when I get one of my Lucky Craft's caught on something.

I own the telescopic type and it works well on days that aren't too windy, keeping the boat positioned is important. I fish mostly shallow waters so this one works best in my situation. And yes, it will get your buddies out of the snake infested trees.
