Anyone familiar with Kentucky Lake - making our first trip!

Featured Replies

I am wondering if anyone can give some info on Kentucky Lake. We are heading down the week-end of July 11th-13th. Hopefully it wont be too hot to land some nice largemouth!

We are actually staying at Green Turtle Resort and I have booked Jim Doom as a guide.

We will have sucess in July down there? Anyone familiar with Jim Doom? Or the Green Turtle, lets have it.

well i have nevr fished this lake in a boat but i have fished formt he shore here alot

i wasent going to post on this at first but then i saw u mentioned green turtle bay

have stayed here before and there is a little dam of rocks that goes way out in the water i guess it kind of protects the marina area with all the boats

but you can acually walk out on this and i do this whne im ther and have alot of luck with small spinnerbaits

basically all i use ther

dont fix wut aint broke

jus if ur looking for sum shore fishingin between boat trips

You should be able to catch fish deep while you're there.  Not familiar with that guide but you are staying in a good area, right between KY and Barkley lakes.

You will probably get some better info before your trip.  Good luck and have fun.

If you like BBQ you should eat at Knoth's.  I think that is the name it isn't too far from green turtle bay and has some really good BBQ.

Thanks for the heads up. The forecast is calling for mid 90's!!! That kinda stinks,  but bass still need to eat!

My wife will be happy to hear there is some good bbq.

Yeah it gets pretty warm in KY in July.  If the temp is in the 90's the heat index will probably be close to 100.  THere is still good fishing to be done though.

Hope you enjoy your trip. If you have any other questions you can shoot me a PM.

There are only two places to go on KY lake in July.

In the morning and evenings, back in the bays and hit the weeds with a frog.

In between you most likely will be jigging, c-rigging or cranking ledges.

And just so you know, Green Turtle Bay is actually on Lake Barkley not Kentucky Lake....but the fishing should be the same.  Ive fished the rock jetti there as was mentioned earlier.  Fished with a chatterbait and didnt come up with anything, but I was only there for a short period of time as we were visiting the owner (friend of the family), was also getting towards mid day so that could have been a factor.
