Shad fishing on the Susquehanna

I live in Maryland and usually fish the Susquehanna for Smallies. Has anyone fished for Shad. If so, I was wondering when is the best time and where to go. I keep hearing go during the run and the lower Susquehanna is the best.

Hope you guys can help...

    What are the MD. State rules ? cause on the PA. side of the Susquehana > you can't knowingly target shad at anytime of the year.

    in CT you can't fish for Alewifes but you can fish for American Shad.  You use the same lures to catch both.   ????????????
