Anyone try the upper Potomac yet?

Featured Replies

Water level is slowly coming down. Just wondering if anyone has been out yet. I normally fish anywhere from Taylor's Landing down to Dargen's Bend.

I usually fish right around the bridge.  I would imagine the water is still pretty high, and it's pouring right now.  I probably won't get out there for a while.

I got a buddy who lives right by dam 4... he says he thinks about 2 weeks.   water level will come down while water temp will go up.

Looks like the levels are about 4' (and rising again) above normal flow. I haven't been over to the Potomac since I posted the flood pics the other week.

I'd love to fish taylors area a little more but those dang boat ramps there flat out SUCK! The lower one is too shallow and the upper one is right in the heart of the strongest part of the current and doesn't help that ramp also just drops off so far out. Have checked the temps at the Williamsport power plant lately, the last I had heard they were pushing close to 50 degrees. Could be interesting real soon!

Still too d**n high.  Seems like every time I get ready to go another storm rolls through and raises the river level again.  Maybe Sunday???

Agree Taylor's is a tough ramp.  Snyder's isn't too bad but I don't like the fishing in that area as much.  I usually fish out of Shepherdstown more out of convenience than anything else.

Yeah, I gotta agree there. Tried hitting dam 4 yesterday for a little bit. The levels just weren't cooperating for fishing it from shore.  >:(  Too high to fish the rip rap right below the dam and either too high or too low for me to fish the other area I do well. Had it been about 2' lower I could've worked one section of it and had it been about 2' higher I could've fished it another way. It had me in trees where I couldn't make a decent cast either way. Oh well, there will be other days!  :D

Snyders is a bit low at normal levels but I have fun fishing that section. Surprisingly, I've only fished right down at Shepardstown a handful of times from shore (even back when I lived in Sharpsburg). Go figure?  :-?
