I guess the title pretty much sums it up, I am trying to decide on either green or black light for a cap light to do some night fishing this year.

i have two 3 foot black lights on the bow of my boat when i night fish, i dont really  notice it scaring fish, i just use it to see my line a bit better, as far as a cap light glaring toward the water im not to sure, but if put flash lights on fish and watched them sit in the same spot for quite some time

I may be totally wrong about this.  But i always thought at night, that light would attract fish.

My take on this is that anything "unatural" distracts fish, and this is what I always go by.  It may be right, it may be wrong, but to me, it makes sense.

When I night fish, I only use my head lamp if I'm netting a fish, or if I need to see my tackle box.  My head lamp has a red light, along with white lights.  The red light takes less time for your eyes to re-adjust then the wight light which is nice.  I've heard green keeps the bugs away.

I think I read something like that somewhere... not directly, but that the light attracts bugs, which attracts baitfish, which attracts bass.  Makes sense to me.  

But, as far as shining a light in the water, I can attest to the fact that I have scared some bass away by doing that (red and white light, never tried green).  I don't think a black light would, though.
