I nabbed a few while trying to see what they were and what i got was def LMB. (I was hoping they were big minnows) Not saying they all were, but it was pretty crazy looking.

yeah.. probably shad.  those have been jumping around a lot lately.  crazy little guys!  good job on your big fishie.  i caught some of those baby LM bass at wolf lake.  that's pretty much all i've been getting this season it seems in terms of LM bass.. but i'm a noob.  >.<

Where about do you fish?

We tend to go around Lacrosse area

LaCrosse, that would be Horseshoe Bend, or some feeder ditches and/or creeks. I fish anywhere between the State Line and where it starts at the Little Kankakee Ditch.

Indeed, Horseshoe Bend is our main spot, but we drift around that basic area. Also hit th LaSalle area a couple times.

Where about is the Little Kankakee Ditch?

Also how is the area around the Grand Kankakee Marsh?

I was just at Horseshoe Bend the other day and caught 4 nice bass between 2 - 4 lbs. on topwater baits...

Grand Kankakee Marsh is basically 2 ponds and a series of ditches...great fishing!

My personal best LM Bass (8.5 lbs.) was taken there on a Bettencourt Baits 9" Assassin topwater bait; and this year I caught a 12 lb. Northern Pike on a Bettencourt Baits Rodent (also another large bait - body and tail total length around 10 inches).

I get a lot of strange looks when I tie on the big baits, but the proof is in what type of fish I get when using them.

At LaSalle, Blackoak Bayou and White Oak Bayou are by far the best...Area 3 primarily for bass, and the other for bass, northern and some dandy crappies n gills.

What used to be called "Ben's Bayou" on the north side of the river, east of the RR Bridge is excellent for crappies and northerns; while the ditch that runs south just before the RR Bridge is excellent for bass and northern.

The Little Kankakee Ditch is close to South Bend.

I'd also suggest the "ten mile road" area to you...there you'll not only be able to fish the Kankakee, but some good sloughs, and the Yellow River too - the Yellow is excellent for smallies and the previous SR northern pike was caught there; while the Kankakee in that area is good for crappies, northern and walleyes.

well, that's all for today, more another time.

How deep is Black Oak?

We were wondering what the limit for boats would be that we could get in?

Thanks
