We struck out today in about 2 hours on the river. Not a bite. The other boat that we saw out there didnt catch anything either. Shane, do you know of a way to see if they are pulling water other than just going all the way out on the river?

There is no way. You have to see the smoke coming from the two shorter stacks, or they aren't pulling, which means no current, and no warm water, so no baitfish, and no bass.

tried down by the stellos dam yesterday for about an hour and got absolutely nothing except some snow in my boots. It shouldnt be too long before the ice is gone and I can land some of these big ones again. Also I am determined to catch this bass I saw at Mill Pond in nashua. It seems to lurk in one particular area for the past 2 years and will not bite anything. It looks to be around 8 pounds or so and id love to get that thing in. I feel defeated by this fish haha.

I can't wait for the warmer weather. There are definitely some nice fish in Mill Pond. My friend and I both caught 7 pounders out of there last year. It helps that most everyone releases them for others to catch. I'll be trying for him too.

Thanks Shane. I can see the stacks from the end of my street so thats actually really helpfull. It stinks to get the boat all the way up the river to find out they arent pulling.

I hear ya, buddy. I only live 8 miles away, but when I get up there with my boat and gear, and see no smoke, it's a drag, because I know what's coming. At least now spring is almost here, and a million more options open up, even though I have a blast up there in the winter. Makes the frozen months go by quick. We'll have to hook up and hit it here sometime.

Me too, UNH! Today I hit the river, even though it was high, muddy, and the wind was brutal. The place was like Grand Central Station today. There were 4 other boats up there, and that's mid-week! A couple boats were a bunch of old timers, that locked down prime position, and they were slaying them! One of them got a 7lb largemouth, and two 5+lb smallies were caught right before my eyes. I did okay, with 5 smallies, and 9 largemouths. Two biggest, were a 4-9, and 5-9, and I lost what would have been my new PB smallie as I tried to bring her in the boat. That sucked! All my fish today came on a keel-weighted Rage Tail Smokin Rooster in a light prototype color.

wow, sounds like a great day out there for everyone. Did you catch that one in the second picture out in the maine river instead of the normal spot directly at the outflow?

Sort of. I was positioned out in the main river, but casting back to the rocky point (on the inside). I couldn't get into the area where the outflow is, due to boats in there.

Not sure exactly where you guys are fishing on the river but this could be of help with the issue of pulling water/not pulling water.

After reading about everyone catching big large and smallmouth I had to try it out after work today.  I was only able to be there for a short time, just long enough to land a decent smallmouth, just short of 3lbs.  I'll take it any day.  I did see several fish dart out from the bushes right on the shoreline which is now a few feet higher than it was a couple days ago.

Yup, they were up shallow, or right on the shore today with the high, muddy water. My two biggest came in about a foot of water on a rocky point.

It's awesome you have been catching fish all winter Shane!  That rocks!  I'm real jealous...with a newborn I have not had time to do anything but watch fishing shows!

I did call the marina and the nitro should be all set for early april.  I doubt I'll be able to wait that long though.

Guys we should plan some trips for the spring again. I know it's a bit early.  What do think?

I'm game. We sould be something in early spring on one of the bigger lakes like Bow Lake or Spofford Lake. I live in Peterborough now, so it would be a haul, buit I'd also like to fish Winnisquam and Newfound Lake if people are up for it.

One other thing we might want to consider is starting a new thread.  I know we had to stop posting in the old NH thread because it got too big and we were afraid it would crash and lose all the info.  I'm not sure if that is still a possibility, but I know this thread is bigger than that one was..

Went out on the river around 10:30 this morning with nhbassin.  Full rain gear and we were good to go.  I started catching largemouth almost right away with a crankbait, throwing it as shallow as i could.  90% of our bites came right next to shore, especially if you could get your bait into the flooded bushes.  I can't believe the average size of the fish around there, most of ours were in the 3lb range, a couple 3 1/2lbers.  nhbassin started getting good bites slow rolling a spinnerbait...one of which was a 3lb smallie. We headed back to the boat ramp around 2:30.  Both of us were pumped on making the best of an otherwise nasty day.

Anyone going out this weekend that's looking for a partner?  My wife's working all weekend so I have nothing to do.

I'm going to try and hit up stellos dam around 4 and try my luck
