Featured Replies

I see a lot of talk on here about West Lake Toho.....what about East Lake Toho.....anybody fish here recently and have anything to report? :-/

East Lake is very tough.Tampa Pro had 52 boats Sunday March 2nd.

Winners-4 fish-9.75, 2nd 9.47 including BB of 3.93,3rd 5-8.92,4th 5-8.91

5th(last money place)7.80.The water is very clear you're able to see the bottom in 4-5 feet.It was also semi windy slight white capping.

West Lake Tohopekaliga has always been a highly fertile water (the problem there is over-fertility).

In sharp contrast, East Toho has always suffered from low fertility, a good lake to avoid.

I don't think I've ever had a good day of fishing on East Lake.  The bass are notoriously small and seem to have a bad case of year-round lockjaw. The few bass I have caught in East Lake were near the shore casting/pitching into in the thick cover (lillypads, grass, cattails, etc.)

I remember me and my fishing partner had a night tournament in East Lake about 4 years ago and we caught every fish you can think of - except bass.  We caught mudfish, warmouth, bluegill, pickeral.....  Finally, late into the tournament my partner hooked into a MONSTER fish and we were thinking 'well at least we'll win big bass!'.  Nope, it turned out to be a giant catfish.  We were joking at the end of the tourney that we should have weighed in all the junk fish we'd caught.

Last year my partner/wife and I finished 2nd in a Cracker Boys tournament(89 boats) with 3 fish for 14.30 (1st had 25lbs.3rd was just

under 14.30.)in a boat trail. We've gone back to that spot under similar conditions to no avail. The only change is the water clarity, much more clear. Thus tougher I recken.I'll also confess,no one better laugh either, all I did was net.

I fished the BASS Weekend Series Championship there the first year they had it.  I am from North Carolina and just saw Toho ( not knowing at that time there was a difference) and thought we were in luck.  I fished 4 days and caught fish 2 of those days.  On the boater side it took 12lbs for 2 days to make the cut to the top 12 ( I had 0 the first day and just under 10 the second) and Jeff Coble won it with like 27lbs for 3 days!!  Pretty bad when a championship in Florida takes a 9lb average over 3 days to win.  Good memories but a tough place to fish!
