snakes and crocs oh my

Featured Replies

are snakes and gators a really big problem in the local lakes in florida. i'm looking to go on a fishing trip to orlando this summer and i don't want to have to make a trip to the hospital as well.

I'd plan on seeing a snake or gator but I wouldnt worry about getting hurt by one. Watch where you step on shore and dont steal any gator eggs and you'll be fine.

You won't have any problems.Usually if you leave them alone they leave you alone. Some of the younger ones will chase a topwater sometimes though.Or just about anything else you throw on top of them.

If you see one that is yawning at you, don't kiss him goodnight.

hahaha, that is some of the best advice I've ever heard!

if you are fishing from a boat gators are not a problem unless they go after a fish you have on the line. Watch out for snakes near the trees as they may fall into the boat. On land I would watch out for both VERY CAREFULLY

Well, I was born and raised in Central Florida and I've never been bit by a snake or a Alligator. Unless you go walking into a swamp or try to mess with them... they aren't looking to bother you!

Here's another Florida native to watch out for...

Pygmy Rattler. I saw this one while out on a walk in a Kissimmee swamp area. Only one I've ever seen in the wild that I can recall in my 37 yrs of being here.

Also... if you see some Gators doing this... don't bother them!

They started fighting right after I snapped this shot! They weren't concerned with me though. I'd still show them some respect though.

All depends on where you plan to fish? if it's the Everglades, yes.... ;D

absolutely incorrect. been fishing the glades for 30 years and never had a problem. you will see many gators and maybe see a snake or two, but they will not mess with you if you don't mess with them.
