Good luck out there tomorrow, I would like to fish there but I have to work tomorrow morning. You may want to throw some topwater baits early morning as the topwater bite has turned on. The big fish are relating to the stumps early morning and late evening.

did horrible today, didnt catch a thing made our way around most of mercer then ended up deep in the woods hiking for 30minutes to get back around the lake on the bike trail...never doing that again lol...went to huntsman for an hour and didnt catch anything there either....first time ive been skunked this season....

There wasn't much of anything biting at  Royal either but I did see a couple MONSTERS!  They were right up close to the shore at one end of the dam not far from the no carp fishing sign area.  I think they might have been nesting.  I spooked them when I walked by but they didn't go far.  I could see shadows in the deeper water.   I had a little crappie spinner rigged since I wasn't having luck with the LM.  I kept running it by them, but no interest.  I met an old guy who had a small keeper in a bucket, but he was fishing live minnows on the other side of the lake.

I was there from 10am to 12pm with my friends and we got stunked.  I even loss my spinner on the last cast!

Man, when you guys said stumps, you weren't kinding! hahah

I did catch a nice 3lb 4oz at the potomac earlier though :)

landed two at Mercer today about ~1lb? really bad at guessing and didn't have a scale.

hooked into something big and it got loose several seconds later...as I was checking my rig a whopper jumped out in the distance. Coincidence..? I think it was her way of saying f* you!

haha nice...yea my friend and i got there at 7 fished till 10 no luck..sucks i think they fed heavy last night or something...saw a crapton of turtles though...looks like a nice healthy population...might start turtle hunting

My friend from work was there this morning and caught a 4lb lmb in the stump field.  He said someone immediately came over to him and attempted to fish in same area where he caught the lmb until he said something to them.

I'm going to be there in the morning with a couple of buddies, I'm looking to do a little bed fishing if the ladies (the bass) are up to it. I hope to see some of you guys out there.......

I'm fishing Mercer Thursday morning from sun up around 645 til about 1145.  Anyone wanna meet up with me and fish it?  If so say so here and pm me.  I will give you my cell and we can plan a meeting spot.  I already have an idea of where I want to hit (trust me it's productive and also a spot where PLENTY of 4-5lbers have come out of.

Let me know fellas.  Plan on catching some spawnin ladies with early morning topwater.  Then worming and throwing a spinner later in the morning to catch the rest.

J:

I'll be back from travel this week by Wednesday afternoon and have a relatively light schedule on Thursday. If that doesn't change I'll PM you on Wednesday afternoon and we'll hook up.

with all this rain I'm certain the water temp has changed and is probably a little cooler than it was after those 80 degree days, but it looks like it should be getting warmer by wednesday,  I threw topwater this weekend in the morning and didn't have a single hit and this was after those 80 degree days my point is that right now topwater doesnt appear to be working until the evening bite after the water has a chance to heat up a little during the day.  Give it a whirl but not too much time when you could be catching fish on something else.

Yea I know there's a lot of factors that come in to play with topwater.  I know it might not be the most efficient lure at the time but depending on what the sun is doing and the temps are and if it's hitting that part of the lake good in the morning I may try it.

If not got a bunch of other ideas.  Thanks for the heads up though.

I knew you would, just sharing my two cents since it didn't work for me until 10:40 at night. 8-)

Jay,

Count me in, we are going to catch some hawgs Thursday morning. The water will be stained and a little cooler, I think that works to our advantage. We may have to try a few different spots on the lake to locate them but I have a good feeeling about Thursday morning.

When I left Mercer on Sunday, It looked like a mud puddle. That water got real muddy in about 2 hours during the hard rain. The rain and wind kept me from sight fishing, but I located a 7+ pound LMB. It won the short game of tug-o-war, but I'll let her rest. I suspect she is on or near a bed and I will return with the same lure and stouter tackle. I almost wet myself when it broke the surface. Ron can relate to that sensation...........It sucked. Throw in some lightning that came on real quick to top it off..........
