Any NoVA angler's been out lately?

Recommended Posts

The weather's cooled down, but so has the posting in the Southeast section by the NoVA anglers :o! Has anyone been able to get out and fishin the cooler water lately?

Went pond hopping with Dan a few days ago but we didn't see much action.

I plan on fishing accotink bay/dogue creek tomorrow and was wondering what's been workin lately in our area.

If anyone's fished this body of water before, any tips?

If anyone wants to join me, I'll be on the water around 8 tomorrow morning.

I'll post a detailed report of how I do to make up for the lack thereof from the last few days in the Southeast! ;D

Funny you should ask, take a look at my report for last night on Royal in the outings section.  My PB largemouth for the year, 7 lbs, 2 oz.  It fell for a black/red flake baby brush hog on a spot remover.  I started at the manhole cover point, but nothing.  Moved to the shallow flats and caught three keepers in the 1.5 lb range on topwaters.  The lunker hit about 11:30.  I could be persuaded to hit up some local ponds sometime over the next few nights. ;)

I'm in!

If I finish my homework, I might hit Barton again tonight.  I have the 3 kids by myself all weekend.  Little chance I'll be able to fish before Monday night.

Hopefully some big wake baits. I was going to sneak off this afternoon to throw some, but it isn't as cloudy as I thought it would be.

I bought a LC live pointer on impulse because I couldn't find any magic swimmers or lake fork magic shads. I want magic.

I've never seen them at the one near my house (Kingstowne). Never checked the Burke one or any others in the area though.

I would check the others. The walmarts in fair lakes and manassas are usually stocked.

I went out last night down here in Harrisonburg. Fished about 6pm-7pm in the rain. Had some strikes on the Rage Tail Toad over weed mats. I landed two, had a couple come off and just missed the hookset on a couple. Also had a hit on a big 3/4ounce jighead with the rage tail craw on the back (Andrew - the bait that I was using on my baitcaster in the morning when we were fishing) but the fish jumped and spit the bait. I feel that the fishing has been better than it was a couple weeks ago. I don't know if it's the cooler temps or because it was raining or what but I had a half dozen hits in an hour at a place that is highly pressured and usually only gives up a couple of hits every 2 hours or so...

Is anyone available the weekend of the 18th and 19th?

Dan, so maybe that hook IS too small. I went shoppin for more shakey head stuff but put them away to buy the LC.

I'll be up in Ashburn on the 18th helpin those kids out with Simon (possibly). Might be able to get something goin on the 19th though. I'll let you know if anything comes up.

Yeah, turns out I am going to be in town for a friend's birthday, but I can't help out the Ashburn guys because of it.

I am free Friday and Saturday evening as well as Sunday morning as far as I know. Just let me know.

The one in Burke had them last time I was there, about a week ago. But, it was clear they were contracting their tackle department: everything was moved and shoved into one aisle.

I agree to a point, I'm saying this due to the fact I am under a "gag order" of sorts. To those that know we are cool, PM's are wide open and if you not into typing. Pm me for my phoine #. I might come off as a arrogant pr!ck, but as anyone that knows me I will help "anyone" to catch the next PB....... I'll even give you the bait, hook, line, rod and reel to use!!!!!!!!

Ya, I'm fishing and alot. I have killed them at one place and blanked the next....... ;)

I have been out every day this week during my extended lunch time (3  hrs) I have been to the Chapowamsic during the change of tides, as well as lake Lunga on MCB Quantico. I have had some big boys     ( the biggest at 5 lbs) come out at the Chapowamsic. I have had some good luck on jigs (pumpkin grn, crawfis, Rage Tail anocandas, an Senkos.) Ron showed me a few good spots an man are they awesome.

What are you planning for the 18th?

I have a piece of the North Fork here at Woodstock, that can only be floated tooned or canoed into due to the low water then has about a 3 mile stretch that has a dam at the end and some deep 12ft areas.  Oh did I mention no one fishes this area and have landed many hogs here.
