Swim Senko Technique?

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm sorry if this has already been asked.  I scanned through the senko topic above and didn't see anything about it.

What is the most effective presentation of the swim senko?  I have been playing with one for the past couple of months, but I am yet to get a bite.  I have found them to be very finnicky with the way you hook them.  If they aren't just perfect, they don't swim right.  Also, I don't know if I'm supposed to let them sink, or fish them on top.  Typically I let them sink about three feet and retrieve them slow enough to maintain this depth with occasional light twitches of the rod tip.  Perhaps I haven't been patient enough with this bait.  Also, under what conditions (if any) do you prefer the swim senko to the original senko?  And what color do you prefer for clear water?

Thanks a lot guys!  Any additional pointers concerning this lure are also greatly appreciated!

i like to swim mine on the flats. when i get waked, i drop it back and it usually gets whacked. i also swim them through the pads.

thats just about wat I do...and most of the time it works good..also let the fish tell u what they want

How do you guys rig them so they don't twist and turn?  I rigged up one the other day and caught some fish, but noticed the bait tended to twist and twirl rather than swim along.

I have the same problem with flukes....twisting and turning rather than swimming straight.

I threw one the other day for the first time, and I found it much easier to swim the bait with a 1/8 oz screw-in weight in the head.

The screw in weight is the key to success with this bait. If you try to fish them weightless and just let them fall, the tail will over power the rest of the bait and fall backwards.

It was not really designed to be fished in the same fashion as the original senko. I normally fish them on 1/8th to 1/4 oz screw in weights. You can flip them into pockets in vegetation or swim them just under the surface and they are going to be fish getters. There are

several different ways to fish the Swim Senko, but most are going to require the screw in weight.

I have caught a lot of fish using the swim senkos, many over 3lbs, they are my go to bait.  I have also caught my 5 fish limit in less than an hour on more than one occasion with them.  I do not use weights as I found it really does not need a weight to catch fish.  I throw the senko out and let it sink for a couple of seconds, then I give it a couple of quick twitches and then I reel in the slack.  I repeat this procedure until I retrieve the swim senko or I catch a fish.  I almost always get the hits when I let it sink back down.  I hope this helps.  I had one day where I caught 10 LMBs this way in about 75 minutes.

I think i use a 4/0 wide gap red hook with a 1/4 ounce weight maybe? And i run it around pieces or wood. The only problem i have found is that the Gary Yamamotos get torn up very easily. Fishing glue helps to hold it on the hook. Caught 8 dinks on a green pumpkin with red flake today.

Thanks guys.  Guess I'll have to try a screw in weight!  When I bought this bait I had a lot of optimism.  I'll keep working with it.
