Water Temp and Fishing the Shallows

Featured Replies

What do you find to be the best water temps for fishing in the shallows (water 5 ft and above)? I have my own preferences but i want to see what everyone else in the VA and surrounding regions think.

Even though I hate fishing shallow water I catch shallow fish in water 30-95 degrees farenheight all year long.

If you have never fished the Potomac.... well shallow is less then 2 ft.

But I like fishing the flats just when the temp starts to get about 50-55 degrees. After that you will start having big fish up on the flats and that is the beginning of the spawn, here where I fish.

5-3 feet anything about 50. But less than three i wont see many fish there unless its late afternoon in 50 degree water. The fishing really kicks up there when the water hits like 58-59 for me.
