Tackle for a tough lake.

Featured Replies

I am going to a lake tomorrow morning called Lake Jackson with my two buddies.  It is a small lake and can get very crowded with jet skis and boats everywhere.  The fishing is very tough.  Fishing report said bass fishing is barely fair.  lol

I am not making any of this up.  The average fish maybe .5 pounds.  It is very tough.  Seems like your getting a lot of just very small bites from small bass.

Pretty sure some of you guys could tear it up cus your that good but I need some help.  Since the fish are usually small. Should I be downsizing my tackle. What should I be doing tomorrow?

Lake is down 2 feet , clear water and tomorrow is 91 degrees.

Senkos t-rigged or wacky rigged tossed under docks.

if you on lake jackson in butts county Georgia. ive had some success with a trickworm weightless small bass here. other than that... bring some chicken liver or night crawlers and you'll have no problem tearing up some Cats if you give up on the bass

What state! If it is Jackson in Sebring, FL that is my brothers favorite bass lake! He gets em deep in the grass with Carolina rigs, Shakey head trickWorms, flukes around/under docks and deep cranks all in natural colors! BEST OF LUCK

Is it Lake Jackson at the Florala State Park?  If so, you are correct that it is a tough lake to fish.  The water is deep and crystal clear.  During the warmer months it gets very crowded with ski boats and jetskis.  I avoid that lake this time of year for that reason alone.  I only go in early spring before the water warms up enough for the skiers.

There isn't much cover on that lake other than boat docks.  And with the water as clear as it is, some of the fish tend to gravitate toward the boat docks to escape the sun on bright days.  I have had the most success on that lake targeting boat docks on sunny days using my spinning gear to skip a 4" or 5" weightless wacky-rigged senko-style worm under the docks.  Just skip the worm to the shady areas as far under the docks as you can get it and let it slowly fall.  If you don't get a bite on the fall, then slowly and lightly twitch it back to the boat, pausing several seconds or longer between twitches.

Due to the lack of cover, I think that a lot of fish also hold in the deeper water.  So I think this lake would be well-suited for a drop shot rig fished in the clear deeper water in the middle of the lake.  Problem is that you'll have ski boats running circles around you out there this time of year.

Hope your trip was fun.  Post a report when you get a chance!
