Pamunkey river???

Featured Replies

I don't know if anyone else has been on the pamunkey but the last couple weeks have been brutal.  All the fish I have cought (which hasn't been many at all) have been very small.  The bite that I was on a few weeks ago is long gone.

Anybody having any luck on the pamunkey?

Pamunkey will be better in the fall so go back in the fourth quarter.

Catching small bass on the Pamunkey is normal. The big ones just disappear.

I suggest is fishing the wood along the shoreline, especially the wood in the shade, with a finesse worm.

Hit the creeks, too.

Look for drop offs with your electronics and fish them.

Throw your frogs and trick worms over the grass.

Moving water will produce strikes so check out the tides before you head out.  As you know, a falling tide is the best.

If you want to throw cranks, try #5 or #7 Shad Raps for starters.

Are you putting in at Williams?  :)

yes we are putting in at williams.  There are atleast 2 tournaments out of williams tomorrow.

The grasslines are probably grown and ripe with bass at a dead low tide. I know last summer me and my dad went out 3 days in a row and caught 40+ bass each day with several 3+lbers and a 4lber.

I say probably because I have only been able to hit the pamunk once this summer and that was before the grass was up, and I'm pretty sure the grass should be grown in full by now.

Well...it was a tough day on Saturday.  It took just over 10lbs to win it and we had right at 7.  We were lucky to have found those.  The bite was slow (for us) and just about the time I figured the fish out the tide changed and I just couldn't get on them again.  Oh well...I still love that river!

so when you started catching fish, what seemed to work for you?  do you know what the guys were doing that were catching fish?  did you catch more fish in the main river or creeks?

I spoke with my fishing buddy today and he and a friend hit the Pamunkey on Tuesday and he said they clobbered them.

So much for them going deep.

He said the grass is along the shoreline like in the Chick, which was a surprise.

I think he said he got them on spinnerbaits and white trick worms.

Basspro48 knows what he is talking about, so take his advice.  :)
