planning for spring 2010

Featured Replies

My grandparents recently built a house in Summerville, SC, my family made a trip down last April for a friend's wedding and while staying at my grandparents place and fishing the ponds nearby I had some of my best catches of 2009 including a 7lb PB.  I want to schedule a week for us to go down to visit family and fish next spring, but I would love to try to be there during the spawn.  Anyone have any guesses as to when that will most likely be?  One of the neighbors down there is a former tourney angler and said he'd take me out on the Santee river on our next visit, so we will be fishing small (3-5 acre) ponds and the Santee river out of Lake Murray.  Any help would be great, thanks to all and happy fishing while Ohio begins to freeze!

If I were going to pick two weeks out of that time to fish the spawn it would be the first two weeks of April with the second week being my first choice.

Too bad you didn't get that neighbors phone number , he could have probably told you every thing you wanted to know first hand.

My parents just bought a house on Lake Murray and I am heading down in early November for vacation and fishing.

While I am down there and can try to find out some information for you in the spring.

Just realize the ponds wont necessarilly spawn around the same time as the lake.

roch1-  That would be great.  I would have my grandpa do the same, but he is finishing his last year as a professor here in Ohio before they officially make the move to SC next spring.  Thanks for the input all.  I know the ponds will spawn at a different time, but if I can guess when the spawns will overlap that would make for a great week of fishing!
