creek fishing questions

Featured Replies

one of my favorite ways to fish is to camp out on a bank of a creek and catch bream and a few bass all day.  tallahala creek, MS is my local creek that i love to camp on.  but anyway i know there is a ton of ways to catch bream but i cant seem to zero in on what the bass like in this moving water environment. HELP a young angler out please

I usually seem to have luck tossing white grubs on a 1/32oz jig head.  Some others may have other techniques, but thats what I always seem to have luck with on smaller bodies of water, streams, and such.  Hope this helps

Find any slack areas where current is blocked up, whether it be a log jam, a bar that comes up and slows down the current, large rocks/boulders, etc.  Toss behind these areas as the bass would normally sit in the slack areas.

If you can find any deeper pools some of the bass may be sitting in there.  In areas like this it's possible you might be able to find multiple hook ups.  Work them slow with multiple baits.  Kind of like fishing for smallmouth.  Except I tend to find that smallies (aside from boulders and islands) will congregate mostly around structure and "with" current whereas the largemouth are mostly gonna wanna be around specific cover and outside of current.

For baits I like what Hoki said as a searchbait.  Maybe try some jerkbaits (hard and soft), spinners and tubes.

in-line spinners

beetle spins

grubs

tubes

small jerk and crankbaits

small jigs

Buzzbaits and frogs work well too in creeks. Used to trout fish with my dad and would end up throwing bass baits and catch a ton of lm and sm bass.

Buzzbaits and frogs work well too in creeks.

Do not be afraid to throw those.  You would be amazed.  Like he said they work.  I had a decent 4lb bass blow up on a white spro frog in a creek section 3ft wide and maybe 3ft deep.
