NORTH ALABAMA (WILSON LAKE)

Featured Replies

Anybody been out on Wilson Lake in North Alabama?  What did you throw?  I am going out in the morning, and am thinking of throwing some Strike King Red Eye Shads and trying out a couple new spinner baits.  First outing of the year, CAN'T WAIT!

I am headed to Wilson Lake in about 30 minutes.  Good LUck to you.  Let me know how you do.

Hey Bulldawg Fan,

I dont know much about Lake Wilson but I wanted to make sure you knew about the Bulldawg Bass Fishing Classic.  Check out the Tournament Talk Forum and click on Bulldawg Bass Fishing Classic!

Fished last Saturday on Pickwick, below Wilson Dam.

I couldn't find the smallmouth, although one found

me! We did well with the green fish throwing lipless

cranks (18), Wiggle Worts (4) and 6 1/2" Kut Tail on

3/8 oz Shake2 jig heads (5).

All bass were caught in 4-8' of water off gravel banks.

What kinda lipless do you use? a lot of people tell me a redeye shad in sexyshad is a awesome lure.  I am always leary of lipless crank bait, i always get hung on something.

My partner fished the Red Eye Shad and did very well.

I fished XCalibur Xr50. You MUST carry a lure

retriever if you are going to fish any kind of submersed

treble hook lure. We retrieved a number of hang-ups

with 100% success.

I am on only a few hours sleep right now, but Wilson is heating up. On Tuesday March 9th me and my partner fished Wilson. Our top 5 went around 23-24 lbs. We  fished some creeks toward the Wheeler Dam and fished the chunk of land in the middle of the dam area. First fish in that chunk of land was a 5lb 2oz LM on a jerkbait. We caught our bigger fish toward the mouths of creeks on jerkbaits. We were finding that farther back in the majority of the creeks were a large number of bucks. If you could find a creek stuffed with shad that would be a plus too. We caught some on bitsy jigs and a 5lb smallie on a white grub on a jig head. Like I said Wilson is heating up... our best bag was on Tuesday, but we absolutism crushed the fish the following few days.

went to wilson yesterday miserable weather did not catch many fish =(.

I was fishing a tournament on Pickwick yesterday we caught 16 lbs, and there were a few 19lb sacks. If you want to catch a ton of fish on Wilson fish the creek on the right side of wheeler dam. I can't find the name, but a bridge goes over the creek. We fished fairly far back and there are a ton of fish. Throw senko's and shaky heads near the laydowns you WILL catch 20+ fish.

i dont fish wilson much. mostly i fish wheeler. Im still sorta new so I don't know many good fishing wholes anywhere especially this time of year. I catch a lot of fish in the hot summer months but nothing ever over 1-2lbs.

Also i have never thrown a shakyhead or senko so i don't have much confidence lol. 99% I use a zoom finesse worm or UV speedcraw texas rigged.

They will work back there also. We our bigger fish near the dam as well as the first creek on the left side of wheeler dam. There are also bigger fish in the same creek I first mentioned toward the mouth more.

i was using my bro in laws bass tracker and it was not handling the main lake to well so i ended up going back in shoal creek and only 3 fish that were caught was on a redbug finesse

Bamajoker did you fish the southern collegiate tournament? My partner and I from Penn State fished it. We could have def. did better, but for what fish we were on we were happy with it.

Naaa I have only been fishing seriously i guess for the past 2 years i dont even own a boat yet lol. But i am still learning a lot of stuff about fishing I never imagined existed  but it intrigues me so I am trying to learn as much as possible. My bro-law knows a little bit i guess but he goes to the same 5 holes no matter what and if he dont catch em on a worm the fish just are not biting.

I used to ask the "tournament" fishers at my work but they are relentless to give to many tips. it kinda why i am glad i found this website there is a lot of good info its just hard to figure out when and how to apply it.

What would be some ideal types of spots around shoal creek area?  Would it be better to stay on main lake up around six mile creek or to fish shoal creek?

I have a 30HP motor so I can't run too far.  It takes way too long.
