April 13th-16th will be fishing artificials in Lake Rousseau/The Backwaters, any advise on locations and hot baits would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

It's been a few years since I've fished the backwaters, this time of year, you stand a chance of stickin a big fish anywhere it's wet. I do recall that I've killed 'em in there on white willoleaf sb's. It's a great place to fish. Know the lake before you run wide open or you may come to a sudden stop.

Haven't been there in years, since the buoy markers were "TM" (today they gage "AR" mileage).

Back in the day, the "Withlacoohee Backwaters" was THEE place to fish (great historic value).

The Backwaters have since undergone negative change, and Lake Rosseau

may be the better bet today. In any event, most of the best holding sites

were places where hydrilla &/or timber merged with the Withlacoochee River channel.

I recently fished the backwaters running a stanley ribbit over slop with great success.  HOwever i did do a whole lot better on the actual lake.  I found some nice eel grass near the dam and it was on.  A zoom mag speed worm was my key bait on the lake.  And if you are a crankbait guy, try deflecting the bait off stumps if you can find any! LOL!!!!!!  Good luck!
