trailer hook on chatterbaits??

Featured Replies

i just got my shipment of chatterbaits in, and i was wondring if anyone throws them with trailer hooks. i was thinking about trying it and was thinking what everyone else would think. let me know if its a good idea or a bad idea

Buy some and always keep them with you if the bass are short striking it.  They will be useful if they are.

I use trailer hooks on my spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and Chatterbait-style lures. With all three lures, the majority of the fish have the main hook, but there are just enough caught on the trailer hook for me to want to use them. Without them I lack confidence.

This is what I do about 50 percent of the time.

I take a treble hook and cut off one of the three barbs. Then I thread on a plastic trailer of my choice and before I thread it on all the way I put on the treble hook, and then thread the rest of the soft plastic on. It does not hang up as much because the bottom barb is gone and it stays on there well.

I've never used a trailer hook on a chatterbait, but rest assured, after this thread, I will be using them  8-)

No Trailer hook on this one for me.

I'd be pulling grass & weed off it continuously I think.
