Did anybody catch anything decent this weekend???

Featured Replies

Fished sunday all day and got nothing but dinks. And by dinks I mean they were so small they make my normal dinks look big. I tried shallow, deep, and everything in between. I tried fishing fast, slow, and everything in between. I threw everything I had at them... by far the toughest day of fishing this year.

I hate cold fronts.

If you caught some decent fish, please enlighten me

Just curious where you caught that? Must have been up in northern florida with the coat you have on..

I actually had a decent day yesterday on one of the local lakes out here.  Nothing huge, but several three to three and a half pounders.  The only thing they were touching was a football jig in 8-12' FOW.  Nothing else even got touched.  I had a few follows on a different swimbaits, but none committed to it.  Was cold and windy in the morning.  I ended up dropping my anchor at the spots I stopped in.  Glad I brought it with me.

That was just a rain coat getting blown up by the winds, we were down south

He caught that not too terribly far from where you are in Pines.  :D  I'll let him tell you the specific spot.  Not sure if it's one of his honey holes.

With a skin of ice on the local ponds and the air temperatures being in the 20's 30's and 40's, to answer your query: Nope.

Fishing after cold fronts in FLORIDA S__KS!  Don't even waste my time unless its a tournament.

Been wondering about Holiday Park..Water has got to be dropping. If the weather gets stable we should get into some good fishing. Also keeping in mind the spawn.

I guess we don't have it so bad down here after all..

I thought the water would be down too but it's not! I didn't go to Holiday, but I was out at the Sawgrass north ramp and MM35(Miami Canal) off the Alley, and I can tell you the water has not dropped yet. I took a few photos of the entrance to the flats (airboat trails) but for the life of me I can't figure out how to post a photo on this site. Anyways I went several hundred yards down a few airboat trails and the water was 2-4ft. Where's water management when you need em'?

The water was down at Holiday two weeks ago. Sawgrass, and Holy Lands are way high, and I guess MM35 west side is still up from your report.

Hitting the alley first ramp headed west Sunday to see what is there. Fishing, will be on a little white flats boat. Say hey if you see us.

I fished Lox Friday...caught about 15 but all small. Five biggest would have been about 8lbs. Only thing that worked was flippin, until about 3PM when the water got to 60. Then I started catching them on skinny dippers in the flats (but, again, small).

The past three days I've been fishing my golf course ponds with my golf cart. I've got six over 4lbs the past three days with two in the 5lb range. Like Eric, EVERY fish has been on a jig in rocky, deeper water. The jig has to be 3/8oz or bigger also. I've tried the 1/4oz jigs and have not got bit on them. The fish are hanging off the deeper dropoffs, and the faster descent of the heavier jig gets a reaction bite.

I think I've doubled my 2010 total of jig fish in the past three days...

The only size I got touched on was a 3/8. I had one strike on a 1/2. The 1/4 and 3/16 finesse jigs I was using initially didn't even get looked at.

While I was out I found what should be a great spawning flat on the lake I was fishing.  25-30 foot of water that comes up to a big plateau thats 6-8 foot.  Definitely planning on hitting that area up again once it warms up some.

Yep, that's what I've been seeing also. I've caught ~40 fish the past three days. Every single fish has been on a jig. About 70% of those have been on a 3/8oz PB&J (brown/blue) colored jig with a Sweet Beaver trailer (Okeechobee Craw). I've got a few on the 1/2oz.  Nothing on the 1/4oz.

I started out with a PB&J and moved to a black w/ chartreuse skirt.  The water I was in was dirtied up pretty badly from the wind.  That lake is a great jig lake.  Theres very little slime on the bottom.  Mostly just rocks and mud.  I sure as hell wish my lake was like that.  I've got a good three inches of some kind of plant on the bottom of the majority of the lake.  No idea what it is.  Looks like some kind of brown coontail.

We had a pretty decent day out of Holiday last Saturday-maybe 40+ but nothing over three. Many were small 13-14" keepers (last year's 11-1/2s) Mostly all caught on t-rigged or wacky-rigged Aces. A few were caught on jerkbaits-nothing on top though. Water at Holiday is definitely down over the past month although they were back pumping at the ramp. has anyone ventured into the flats recently or put another way, is there enough water to do so?

I'm still getting some nice sized fish at my golf course spot...I caught two more +4lbers today (jig) and my daughter got her PB, a 3lber (senko). She'll usually lip em for the camera, but she didn't want to grab this one.

Nice fish right there, Mike. Bet she had a blast.

I got out for an hour earlier. Senko's and t-rigged craws. Fish were holding on the drop offs in about 12-15 FOW. Had a few striking much shallower.  10 brought into the boat.  Best five would have gone 13 or so with a 4 being the largest.

Not too much in the way of bass, but have fared well with other species.  Despite the cooler water I've caught some nice cuda over the last few days on my home made cuda tubes, lot's of fun for me.
