Mechanicsville VA Walmart

2 things about this place.

1. I went in and noticed that they are carying some nice fishing gear this year. Some higher end brands of reels and rods. Also a pretty good selection of lures. Was quite surprised.

2. That there is a pond right behind it. The guy at the sporting goods counter said that it is owned by Wallmart and was there for water run off from the parking lot. Near the tire center. Has anyone ever fished here before. I went down there last night for a little bit. Guess what, somone must have put some fish in it because I even caught a small dink. This is promising b/c it is only 3 min from my house.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has fished here before?

I noticed on google maps, but thought nothing of it. Good to know is something promising. Curious to find out what it may produce...keep us posted.

It might have a few fish in it if not many, who knows. But the real good thing being so close to home is it could be a good place to try out any new lures or set ups and you never know what might happen. Well good luck!

Retention ponds naturally won't contain fish due to no feeder creeks. The ponds are designed to slow the water run off for silt to drop before moving on to natural water.

That being said, many migratory birds will drop in from time to time, transporting spawn to the ponds. Don't expect too much unless someone actually dropped fish in there.

They are also kinda nasty to fish. Make sure you wash your hands and keep your hands away from your face.
