Things are really starting to heat up with the quagga issue at lake Casitas. The adpoted "clean & dry" policy is strickly enforced and a 28 day quarantine is in affect for boats that have been on the Colorado river lakes and most San Diego lakes.

If you are planning to fish Casitas be advised that no water or debris can be in the boat, motor or on trailer; "clean & dry".

just fished casitas a couple days ago from a rental. someone won tenthousand dollars for catching a 10.52 pound bass. There wasn't much talk of quagga mussles other than the signs posted around the lake

Jeezus, I didn't know they were in so many waters here. My local reservoir has a serious problem with them now, they check all boats, motors, and everything before they can be put into the water.

Update on the lake Casitas Quagga mussel issue.

http://www.casitaswater.org/frontpagearticles/board%20to%20address%20quagga.htm

The March 4th meeting is a vote to close the lake to recreational boaters. Lake Cachuma has already taken action to close to recreational boaters pending the Casitas vote.

This is not good news for bassfisherman in CA.

There was a tournament at Casitas on the weekend before last and they turned a guy away because they found a piece of living rubber in his livewell.  Banned from the lake for 28 days.  A lot of guys aren't prefishing because if they get turned away on a prefish day, they will miss the tournament.

I think even with the best of intentions the spread of these things is inevitable.

The March 4th meeting was held and the lake Castias will be closed to recreational fishing for 1 year. Rental boats, resident stored boats and shore fishing will be allowed.

This bad news for bass fisherman in CA, as several other lakes may follow.

What is the point of a 1 year ban? Do they think the threat is going to be over in a year?

And to think people on this forum told me I was an idiot for saying that this was going to happen.

I guess they didnt have the best interests of fishermen in mind after all. The bureaucrats and water nazi's strike again.

This does not bode well for the rest of the state either. Amistad here I come!

Lake Cachuma, following the Castias closure, plans to close March 11th. Both lakes Casitas and Cachuma are excellent bass fisheries.

Jay Yelas learned to bass fish at Cachuma. Casitas has world record class bass that are just starting to move up and the spawn is about 3 weeks away.

Butch Brown caught a 19.5 lb. bass at the lower lagoon at Castiac March 4th. Castaic and Diamond valley lakes havn't decided yet what their plans are, but they can't be far behind in closing and fishing is good and news is bad.
