Moving to Bakersfield from Texas - new to the forums

Featured Replies

Yeah, you heard right...leaving the heaven of bass fishing in Texas and moving the great unknown for me in Bakersfield.  Sold my boat to help pay for the new home, don't know a soul, and don't know how the fishing is in/around Bakersfield.  I hear Isabella is decent, but it seems pretty big for someone with no boat, but man do I love lake fishing.

I'm new to the forums and am looking forward to get to know all of ya'll.  I've been bass fishing for a good 10 years and I love to worm fish.  Top half of my tackle box is filled with an assortment of wave worms, texas rigged worms and the like.  I tend to use an occasional crainkbait, spinner bait and rattle trap, but the places I'm used to fishing in Texas, a worm was all that was needed.

How is Kern River fishing?  Are the fish big?  Are there places I can fish outside of Bakersfield proper?  I'm not a fan of fishing next to freeways and speeding traffic, i like the quietness of the country and not seeing many people while I fish.

If anyone would like to get together and fish, lemme know, I'm always up for fish stories and fishing trips.

I've fished Lake Isabella since the very early 80's. Its my favorite lake. The lake is loaded with very big bass!

Email or PM me, We can hook up and I'll take ya out on the water.

lake kaweah is one of my favorite lakes its located in visalia big bass, crappie, bluegill, carp nice place to fish lots of shore spots

I also moved from Texas to California (and miss Texas as well), but you have landed in the right place. Since joining this forum I have already met new people in my area and we are even thinking about starting our own local club. Great people here! Friendly, and know more about bass fishing than I can absorb into this wet noodle.

Welcome, and if you ever get much further north, let me know, and we'll get on one of the local lakes.

Well, I'm finally in Bakersfield and I'm settled.  I do have to tell ya, driving through Bakersfield and seeing the 'River' have no water in it what-so-ever really makes a guy feel empty inside!

I'm settled down and looking for some places to fish, if anyone has any suggestions, give me a hollar.

I unfortunetly don't have a boat as I sold it a few months ago, so try to take that into consideration when giving me some advise :P
