Need Delta help, just got my boat heading there next weekend

Featured Replies

I just bought a brand new Nitro X5, put on a HDS 7 so I have GPS. Im coming from Reno and honestly Ive never fished anywhere in norcal before. Im not looking for spots, Im just wondering if someone can put me on some general areas? Where is a good place to launch at? I really appreciate all the help, I cant wait to get the boat in the water!!

I know there are a lot more experienced Delta anglers on this board, but I fished it for the first time this weekend. I launched and camped at Russo's on Bethel Island. Made a run into miner's slough and caught a lot of dinks. I had my best luck around Bethel Island fishing the endless boat docks in piper slough. Caught fish to 3 lbs around the docks and flipping the grass mats.

Russo's or Brannon Island are your best bets. I will be fishing a tournament next weekend there.

This time of year pretty much anywhere holds bass. but the better quality will come out of the back areas which you really need to know what you are doing, such as monitoring tides. It can be a maze back there.

Good luck.

Oh Sorry so your best best is to launch from Russo's. Or stop by at the Hook, Line and Sinker and they can guide you to a few areas.

Launch out of Sugar Barge (Down the street from Russos). It's less crowded, and less stressful (if you're nervous and new to that stuff it's a big help going to Sugar Barge).

As people said, there are a lot of little fish biting. Reaction baits, drop shotting, senkos, flipping, you'll catch fish. There's also stripers biting now too.

It's a tough place though, we had 24lbs for 5 a week and half ago, and last trip out had only a few in the 2-3lb range. Tides play a big part of the fish feeding and getting the bigger girls to play.

You guys rock thank you so much for the help! I actually found out the bass club is doing a delta tourny that day, so we are going out as guests and launching from B & W. Im stoked but also a bit nervous, will only be the third time Ive had the boat in the water (Im hitting lake mead sunday and monday this weekend) so I hope I dont embarass myself lol.

The reno club here is pretty cool, I joined them a while ago but really no room for non boaters so I never went out. Should be really fun! Thanks again for the tips guys, Im definitely a senko guy so I will stick with that and just try to work mats and rip rap. Im hoping to hit the delta quite a bit the next month so I will definitely be checking out your guys' suggestions!
