  1. I just accepted a job about 15 mins away from Lake Cachuma in Santa Barbara Ca, so I wont be fishing in NV anymore. But I have found some decent spots in the reno area. Up from Pyramid lake there is a couple lakes with good bass fishing, called Squaw creek and wall canyon. Wall is mainly smallmouth, but I have seen some 4-5 lbr's come out of Squaw. Getting closer to your neck of the woods, South Fork Reservoir near elko has some really great fishing. State record smallmouth came out of there last year. NDOW website is great for info sheets.
  2. You guys rock thank you so much for the help! I actually found out the bass club is doing a delta tourny that day, so we are going out as guests and launching from B & W. Im stoked but also a bit nervous, will only be the third time Ive had the boat in the water (Im hitting lake mead sunday and monday this weekend) so I hope I dont embarass myself lol. The reno club here is pretty cool, I joined them a while ago but really no room for non boaters so I never went out. Should be really fun! Thanks again for the tips guys, Im definitely a senko guy so I will stick with that and just try to work mats and rip rap. Im hoping to hit the delta quite a bit the next month so I will definitely be checking out your guys' suggestions!
  3. I just bought a brand new Nitro X5, put on a HDS 7 so I have GPS. Im coming from Reno and honestly Ive never fished anywhere in norcal before. Im not looking for spots, Im just wondering if someone can put me on some general areas? Where is a good place to launch at? I really appreciate all the help, I cant wait to get the boat in the water!!
  4. Desert shores was good, but my secret was lake las Vegas. They have security too so it's kind of tricky. You can ask for a one day license at the marina, just tell them you are staying at the hotel there and make up a room number
  5. I did end up going with the sustain. I would have bought the stradic based on what you guys said, but they were out of every model except the 4000! He did give me 20 bucks off the sustain, and I had a 10% off coupon as well so I got it for not much more then the stradic would have been anyway. It worked out, and already caught a nice 3lb largemouth on it, feels amazing! Thanks guys for the help, this will last me quite a while. The saros gets duty with the girlfriend now, she is bigtime stoked. Im in love with that sustain anyway, its just a beautiful reel. Reel mech, I did exactly that. They have my BSR852 rod at Sportsmans, and when I put the sustain on it felt awesome. Stradic didnt feel much different to be honest, but that sustain just looks so sweet hehe. I was kind of biased from the start since I had the money and wanted to spoil myself lol.
  6. I have a saros 1000f now, and it just doesnt hold enough line. I love this reel though, it feels amazing and very smooth. Its mated to a Gloomis BSR852 GLX which is amazing. I have the money for a sustain, and put my hands on one today at sportsmans. Is it really worth the extra cash over the stradic though? I dont mind spending it if it is, this is my go to setup. Help! I want to buy this before I leave sunday on a work/fishing trip lol.
  7. I use these: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DAV=&indexId=&navCount=0&catalogCode=QX&id=0017573117605a&hasJS=true&rid=&podId=0017573&parentId=&parentType=&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=netcon&_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A For some reason cabelas only has them in 1/8, but the ones I use are 1/4 and 3/8's with a 2/0 EWG Gammy. Really similar to what RW posted but they also have rattles. Then you just insert your normal ewg hooks and texas rig them like you would a worm. I just recently picked these up and was out here in Oklahoma and have caught a couple nice fish on this rig. Didnt have any problem with bad hooksets either, and I was getting funky hooksets with senkos all week. Missed a good 3-4 pounder today that I had hooked, surfaced, shook his head 10 feet in front of me and I literally saw him spit the worm back into the water. I was miffed to put it mildly.

I love my pointers! I have this new thing where I get to buy a pointer once per paycheck since they are so expensive lol. Worth it though, I have caught more fish on that even just deadsticking it as a search bait then any other hard bait in my box. Color doesnt matter really, Ive caught bass on a brown trout pointer 100sp when there is no trout in the whole lake. Its all about the action. I really like the staysee v2 as well, if you want something dives down a bit deeper. Sammys are great too..you really cant go wrong with lucky craft!
  9. I should probably add, I used to store them all in a plano latch box. Some colors were not seperated, like my purple ika's shared space with baby bass ika's. Now the baby bass ika's have purple strand tails lol. Might be an interesting color combo, but generally you dont want to mix them! I had no trouble with them gumming up or anything like that with those boxes, and I beat the banks last year for hours in 115 degree vegas summertime. That was with only yamamoto stuff though, so not sure on other brands.
  10. I do the same as Roadwarrior. I bank fish, so I have a shimano backpack that holds 4 falcon FTO jerkbait boxes. I find the long slotted jerkbait boxes can pretty much carry anything organized. Two boxes are for cranks and two are for plastics. My two for plastics are seperated into one for senkos and the other is for anything else. Creatures, craws, swim senkos, plastic frogs, tubes and ika's all are in that box. I keep at least 3 senkos of each color I fish, seperated by color so they dont bleed, in the senko box. At least one is rigged up and ready to go at all times in each color. Same goes for the creature box, one of everything is rigged up and ready to go at all times. The rest I leave in the pouches they came in and store in the front compartment of my backpack. It has worm storage zip lock type deals, but I didnt want to gunk them up and 4 pouches fit perfectly in each zip lock binder page. I like to stay organized since I am beating the banks and walking around. Nice to just pop off the backpack and have a worm ready to go at all times since that is my main fishing style.
  11. Great responses thanks guys. That 782 sounds like the perfect rod for jerkbaits in my mind. Im still just kind of tossing that between a cbr843 though, simply because I already have a 7'1 med xtra fast GLX loomy for senkos. Wonder if maybe I should step up to the 783 and use that for heavier jigs as well. Will the 783 still throw pointers and topwaters like spooks well?
  12. I can get an IMX Loomis for the same price though, and the hat Im wearing would point me that route hehe. Like I said, huge loomis fan but I do plan on picking up a couple of the cheap mojo's for flipping, frogs, and stuff like that. I really just want the best jerkbait rod I can get, since I already have the best senko rod on the planet and those are my two main presentations hehe. The MBR782c is what Im leaning towards, its a 6'6 Med Fast as well, so very similar to the avids you guys are usin'. Im just debating if I should get that or step up to the MBR783c for a better all around rod I can jig with too. Problem is it will need different line of course for that but I can always get another spool. This will be my first nice baitcaster, the one I have now is a big stiff BPS rod with a daiwa megaforce so Im trying to step up my game considerably hehe.
  13. Talked the girlfriend into buying me a new rod for my bday...actually she was ready to walk out the door with a CBR843 at BPS the other day but I told her to hold off till I figure out what I really need hehe. Thats where you guys come in! I also looked at the new mojo's and really like the price, especially for a reaction bait rod where sensitivity might not really be needed as much. My arsenal now consists of just a BSR852 GLX that I throw senkos with. As far as jerkbaits, I pretty much only throw pointers. Topwaters are spooks and sammys. I have expensive taste lol. So best rod for those applications would be great, but something I can use elsewhere would be a big bonus too. Heres what Ive figured on so far: CBR843 or CBR845 (not sure which one would be better, and if the moderate tip would work for me. I dont throw cranks very often) MBR782 or 783 in IMX (would be a nice general purpose rod as well) Mojo jerkbait rod, and then could also snag a mojo frog rod since they are so cheap and I need a H in my arsenal. I'll be getting that rod anyway too more then likely, no matter what I buy. Any other suggestions? I really like loomis so I lean towards that, but wouldnt be opposed to looking at other rods. I get nice discounts on loomis too so that makes it nice. The reel going on whichever rod will be a Chronarch B most likely, either that or the Chronarch BPV. Will be using 12lb test CXX copoly.
  14. In march hopefully it will be just about spawn time. I never really fished mead too much for bass, only striper. Bass are TOUGH to catch on mead. When I really started getting into bass though (was just recently) I never used the new techniques I learned on mead, had a small lake near my house that was a good learning spot. Anyways, for mead here is what I know. There isnt much vegetation type cover, so will be pretty hard pressed to find that. Most of the bass are suspended on steap walls with pockets and under ledges. Its a desert lake, so alot of sandstone type ledges and drop offs that come out of the water. I was fishing for striper one day when the FLW tour was there and thats where all the guys were prefishing, rock walls. Also the overton arm is the place to be, thats where most of the bass are. The muddy river empties in there and stains the water some, and I think its a warm river so the bass tend to be better on that arm of the lake. Ive only ever fished the deep arm down by the dam, which might be why I never caught any bass lol. We have snorkeled and seen bass though, and they were doing exactly as I have heard, suspending close to ledges and rock pillars that jut out of the water. Hope that helps you some! There is a few good bass clubs down there too, one of them is based out of the overton arm. I found their site using google, and they had an email listed as bfb1970@yahoo.com so could try emailing them and see if they can give you any spots. Theres also a bass pro shops in Vegas, at the silverton casino. Talk to Stan, he is plowing around the fishing section in a motorized chair most of the time hehe. He knows his stuff and always helped me out with discounts and recomendations, I know he fishes mead too. Sold me an BPS performance graphite IM8 med/hvy baitcaster for a penny because I wanted to try baitcasting out lol.
  15. For an Idaho boy, anything hehe. I went up there and hunted the snake in Twin Falls with my ex roommate one xmas. Absolutely loved it up there, which is what prompted my move to Reno hehe. My company wouldnt let me go all the way to Idaho, not enough work up there haha. We called in some nice ducks late season, was awesome. Responded to your other thread, hope that helps a bit. FISHBBZ, sent you a pm!
