help! Buying a new Shimano tomorrow, sustain or stradic?

Recommended Posts

I have a saros 1000f now, and it just doesnt hold enough line. I love this reel though, it feels amazing and very smooth. Its mated to a Gloomis BSR852 GLX which is amazing. I have the money for a sustain, and put my hands on one today at sportsmans. Is it really worth the extra cash over the stradic though? I dont mind spending it if it is, this is my go to setup. Help! I want to buy this before I leave sunday on a work/fishing trip lol.

I'd just go with a 2500 saros and save my $$$, but the decision is 100% yours, bottom line. For my purposes, symetres/saros are sufficient and going above that is sweet but not necessary and certainly an option.

I chose stradic of your two choices.

I guess I didn't help. ;)

I have fished both, I own the Sustain...

The Stradic 2500FI is a better buy.

8-)

Ive had both, didnt notice much of a difference - if I had to pick Id buy the Stradic MG.

if choosing between the two.....

i say stradic........

if your not hell bent on one of the two.....

i say stick with your saros...only larger..i own the saros 3000, and its great...(though i have had a slight recent problem, its seriously minor in nature, and i show mine tons of abuse....the performance is still second to none!!)

stradic...have owned both.

the sustain may be a tad smoother and may stay a tad smoother longer but, after that, there ain't a whole heckuva lotta difference.

Exactly.

Based on your comments in the first post, buy the Stradic.  You'll be very happy with it.  However, if your really want the better reel, and not the better buy, purchase the Sustain.

I voted sustain because i own one and i love it. Its awesome. But.... both my brother and my father own stradics and theyre just as good. We cant tell the difference. I was gonna buy a stradic but i got a deal and ended up paying less than a stradic for my sustain. If i was paying full retail i would buy a stradic for sure. Nevertheless.... whatever one you buy you will be seriously impressed. I fish them both and they are the bees knees!!!

Both are superior reels. ...

I would go back to SW with the rod I intend on using the reel with, and, ask if you can mount the reels your interested in on the rod. That way you get to feel the way they are going to feel (weight & balance) in your hand.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

I bought a Sustain over the Stradic about a week ago. The Stradic was very nice and a better buy as RW mentioned but side by side outta the box you can notice the difference quite a bit. The Sustain feels more precise if you will. I vote for the Sustain. It's worth the extra bucks IMHO.

I did end up going with the sustain. I would have bought the stradic based on what you guys said, but they were out of every model except the 4000! He did give me 20 bucks off the sustain, and I had a 10% off coupon as well so I got it for not much more then the stradic would have been anyway. It worked out, and already caught a nice 3lb largemouth on it, feels amazing!

Thanks guys for the help, this will last me quite a while. The saros gets duty with the girlfriend now, she is bigtime stoked. Im in love with that sustain anyway, its just a beautiful reel.

Reel mech, I did exactly that. They have my BSR852 rod at Sportsmans, and when I put the sustain on it felt awesome. Stradic didnt feel much different to be honest, but that sustain just looks so sweet hehe. I was kind of biased from the start since I had the money and wanted to spoil myself lol.
