  1. I kind of wish that the shop I used to work at was still around. You could NOT beat the deals that our Loomis sales rep gave to the members of the sales staff. ;D I think I paid $90 for my IMX brand new. I didn't make much, but the deals were killer. You can take into account though, that the process to manufacture the blanks has definitely gotten cheaper over the years. Perfecting the process, resulting in less wasted product = more money in the Loomis bank account. If it hasn't, then Loomis is very poorly run. I'll take a wild guess and say that they are not poorly run.
  2. The Dick's by me is worthless. Their selection of fishing gear is minimal and finding someone to help you is near impossible. That's fine, though. If I can't take a look at the Curado in the counter, I can't buy it, right? They don't get any of my money anymore, that's for sure. :
  3. I highly prefer full cork handles. Loomis, St. Croix Avid, and (older?) Crucials are nice.
  4. You'll be fine with it, but if you're anything like me, you'll soon want to see what even higher end rods are like. ;D Once I started fishing with even halfway decent stuff, I just kept on wanting to upgrade.
  5. Ehhh, they're not worth anything. I can properly dispose of them for you, though. ;D
  6. Keep in mind that static strength and impact strength are usually very different.
  7. Avid. I really like my Crucial, but I love my Avid. My Avid is number 2 only to my IMX. Better get an Ugly Stik then.
  8. You can have speed or power, but not both. The bicycle example given by Burley is spot on. It all has to do with conservation of energy and how that energy is imparted into the reel.
  9. Big money contracts have been known to make people do wacky things, but I thought the same thing. Why did he sell it if he loved it so much? I'm surprised that this kind of thing wasn't in the contract he signed when he sold the company. Gee I don't know, but let me take a shot at answering this: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ;D I do believe that I answered that question before, and it was in fact a rhetorical question. Everyone knows why he sold it.

  11. I take it that I'm in the minority when I say that I don't like split grips? I'd rather have the full length of cork.
  12. I got mine Monday. Lovin it. ;D
  13. If you're loaded, go for it. If money is a concern, IMX.
  14. I voted Compre simply because you get a lifetime warranty. If the Premiers came with lifetime warranties, I'd probably say flip a coin, since they're both great rods.
  15. Size, weight, and how it felt are what it came down to. The Curado is smaller, lighter, and I liked how it felt. Like I said before though, going from an old Coriolis to either is a HUGE upgrade. If the Chronarch was a little smaller, I probably would have.
  16. Just a few posts down. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1246640025
  17. That's about what I would pick, but I'd take my 6' Med-Fast IMX, and I've been liking some of the co-polys I've been using lately. Great setup for soft plastics, but versatile that you can throw just about anything with it.
  18. I can personally recommend St. Croix's Avid 6'6" Medium Fast 2-piece. Wonderful rod. ;D I think the other posters before me covered the pros and cons of 2-piece rods. As long as you get a good one...
  19. I think I actually might go with the Curado. TW finally got the lefty in stock, and it IS a bit lighter than the Chronarch. :-? Either way, I really can't go wrong. ;D Edit: Yea...I went with the Curado. I really liked the way it felt when I checked it out last time, and 2 ounces is 2 ounces. Either way, a big upgrade from my current casting reel! Now my Crucial will have a suitable companion. ;D
  20. I do believe this would be a suitable upgrade from my "only the good Lord knows how old" Shimano Coriolis. ;D
  21. *** is where I got the 180ish quote for the Chronarch. I just got the 15% email and I'm so happy right now! I was close to pulling the trigger last night. ;D 8-)
  22. I wish I had a Cabelas or a Bass Pro in the area so I could maybe hunt for some deals. Most of the "local" shops only drop their prices on old stock when they're going out of business. : I found a Curado D for $130 at Sports Authority, but I think I either want one of the new models, or a higher end "oldie". I guess I could check out Dick's, but their selection is usually pretty bad. I knew I should have picked something up back in April...a local shop had their annual spring sale and had 15% off reels, if I'm not mistaken. If only I had the money then... :-/
  23. Thanks Raul. Question for you - the grips on the "old" Chronarch, are they the same material as the Stradic's Septon handle grips? I do like that material for whatever reason.
